Good Morning! 61˚F heading to the 80s mostly clear no wind.

Fire Wise clearing is on for this morning! The meet-up location was e-mailed to all last night.

Wood working class this afternoon.

Last night was Hand and Foot IC (intense competition) card playing. Won 4 of 5 games! This was entertainment before TV. We change partners after each game, one little old lady threaten to kick me under the table???? I have been ranked according to my wins and I am now in 64th place!

RNG Will it have AC, cruise control, tinted windows. How many hours is the factory warranty?

Does anyone have "Coasting" on their vehicle? The word appears on my dash after about 3 seconds the transmission automatically shifts to neutral and the RPMs decrease to 750 (idle RPM) I was playing with mine and can sometimes coast for half a mile if the road is slightly down hill and my foot is off the gas and brake. If it is too steep down the transmission kicks back in to slow the car down of if going up also kicks in so car won't loose speed too quickly.

Talking of broken axles----

When I did snow contracts I must have broken 6 or 7 over a few years.
Almost always on front right and that was on a 3/4 ton 4 X 4 GMC.
Now all I did was drives but most were downhill on waterfront properties.
I always had my rears chained up as well and a load of sand in the box.
My take was that the rt frt worked the hardest as generally U push snow to the right.
Frozen berms don't help either nor does 120 inch accumulations and then I recall one event that dumped some 30 inches all of which needed to be pushed downhill and that with a blade that was 24" high.
NO, I don't miss that 'snow fun'.

Nowdays I simply blow my own drive with my CUT and call it quits.

RNG, a tracked loader sounds interesting. Not sure how you are planning to do the cutting without a 3pt & PTO. Were you thinking of using the hydraulics to power a front mounted flail on skids ? Check if that requires additional cooling for the hydraulic circuit. Simply trailing a gas powered cutter could work, not sure about how awkward the turns for your slopes would be though.

The general idea with skid steer versions of PTO driven implements is to mount a hydraulic motor on the implement, then power it with the auxiliary hydraulics of the skid steer. The motor adds about a thousand dollars to the cost of the implement. Not cheap, but what cost safety? Here's one example.

Nowdays I simply blow my own drive with my CUT and call it quits.

For 24 winters I have been clearing out the mail 'group' box at the end of my road. I informed the Post Office this spring that I would no longer be doing that. Now it will be up to the other 16 people that collect their mail there to clear it. I did my part.....Next.

RNG Case/NH use motor oil 10w30 for hydro oil, hydro fittings readily available, our tracks lasted four years and yes bucket can float

Very helpful info, Buppies. Especially the 10w30. No more $15/gallon HST oil! Thanks!!!:thumbsup:

RNG, is a skid steer less likely to have roll over than a tractor? I know they are compact. If you need some info from a Skid Steer owner. I can send you Harvey's phone number.

Ground clearance on the NH is only 9", so that lowers the center of gravity compared to the typical utility tractor. The tracks are also wider over the full length of the vehicle, making it harder to roll on a side hill. Still haven't seen the manufacturer's numbers on safe operating gradients, though. But I felt much safer operating that tracked skid steer years ago than I ever did on the Kubota tractor.

I'll search through Harvey's old posts here and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the pointer!

Have you looked at a Kubota?

After the experience I've had trying to keep my side-by-side and tractor running, I'm not very interested in Kubota offerings at this time. Too many things break under normal use that never should, and many of the failures can be traced to poor design or bad material choices. And parts are VERY expensive, and there's always a delay while they're ordered instead of being in stock at my local dealer. I'm hoping to avoid that by looking at construction grade equipment, and by paying attention to the reviews.

The fewer fancy gew gaws the better, Don. And I'll probably be looking at a used piece of equipment with less than 1000 hours, and if there's any warranty at all, it'll be offered by the seller and fairly short lived. A used machine typically sells for half what a new one goes for, and if it's been well maintained and not abused, should be good for several times that before major items like pumps and drives need attention.

Years ago I was told by a California Highway Patrolman that coasting, at least on a motorcycle, was illegal. We were coming down one of the Sierra passes with our engines off, seeing how fast we would go. We learned we could pass cars if we timed it right. The Patrolman noticed the bikes weren't making any noise when he went by going the other direction, and chased us down to provide us with that particular news. Fortunately, that's all he gave us.:eek: Hopefully, you don't have the same experience.

Good Morning!!!! 59F @ 5:30AM. Cloudy. High 76F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.

Looks like this is the last dry day before a series of Pacific storms bring rain showers through the weekend. I welcome the lower temps, but the weeds will welcome the water. Got a fair amount of spraying done yesterday, but ran out of the pre-emergent stuff and had to switch to straight glyphosate. And for the first time, I wore an N95 respirator and nitrile gloves. Yesterday a California jury awarded a couple a two billion settlement (that's billion with a "b") over their claim that glyphosate caused their cancers.:eek:

Hope your finger continues to heal well, Ron, and you have an easy ride in the dentist's chair.

Once the ground is cleared, Don, what is done to keep it that way?

Spraying took longer than I thought it would yesterday, and after a late lunch my nap finished up not much before dinner time. I did manage to figure out why the windshield wipers don't automatically park at the bottom when switched off: someone had installed the wrong relay in the fuse panel. The correct one is on the way, along with a few other tidbits.

I'll spend some quality time under the van today removing the axles on the front drive. Might even remove the front differential; the rebuild kit for the viscous coupler showed up yesterday. With a little luck I'll have time to test drive afterwards and see if that improves the vibration situation.
