Ok, Ok. I know. Please don't chastise me....I should have taken goods notes or, better yet, a photo. But I didn't. I will try to do better next time.

Putting on a new starter on my 345 and am not sure which wire goes on each of the two stud terminals. One spade type terminal is obvious. But can someone help. A good close-up photo of your 345 would be great, otherwise a written description, please. I believe all three wires were attached to the same stud, but I'm not sure that was correct. Why would there be two terminals if one has a rubber cap on it and all the wires go on one terminal?

Thanks for your help.

So when you look at the lug closest to the starter on the solenoid, you probably see that it connects to the starter, correct? If so then yes, I would believe that all 3 would go on the other lug as well. Unless one is a stray or ground. But there wouldn't be a reason for a wire to be attached to a power only when cranking lug off the starter

tomplum, Thanks for the quick response. I checked the starter and you're right. The short lug on the solenoid, closest to the starter, has a wire attached leading directly into the starter. So I will attached the three wires to the other lug like you said. I thought that was the way it was originally set up, but wasn't sure. One of the mounting brackets broke off the old starter, which was less than eight months old. With all the rain we've had this year, I can't afford to get much further behind. Thank you again for your help.

Rubber cap is because it has wire direct to the battery, so to prevent a big short (if touched by a tool, etc. and ground at the same time)

Makes sense now, though the new starter I just purchased did NOT come with the rubber cap. I'll be sure to put on the cap from my old starter. Thanks.

I had a grr moment on a GX345 on Friday. Starter would just go clunk, won't crank. Oil in it. I could turn the engine via the clutch bolt just fine. Futzed around troubleshooting the starting system IE Battery, checking voltage drops, cleaning grounds and cables etc. Dropped the starter out of madness only to discover it was fine (and in fact the 3 wires on one lug ;) . Ended up being he lost the traction belt and it was jammed up under the engine. Duh. I hate rabbit holes!
