Kubota B2650
Been debating for some time now between a B2601 and a B2650. Currently have a BX23 that I use for mowing, loader and backhoe work, nothing else. But I'm finding I need more ground clearance, more of a traditional tractor stance (my BX gets muck absolutely packed all around the rear end every time I get into the mud, the wheels are too close to the machine), a slightly beefier tractor as I get into stuff that I'm starting to feel the BX just isn't really suited for, and a little more loader capacity would be nice too.

I mow one property that's maybe 1.5 acres of grass by myself, and help to mow another where we mow just under 5 acres of grass. The 5 acres of grass is my parents' yard...they mow way too much. But they're on a 100 acre old farm, so I use the FEL and backhoe a lot for draining wet areas, trail maintenance, putting in drains, and some landscaping occasionally. It's also come in handy a couple of times when dealing with some firewood that we didn't want to drag out of the woods; the BX was small enough that we didn't have to. They have a couple larger tractors for brush hogging the fields, plowing/discing the gardens, plowing snow, etc..

I need to keep this light enough for me to tow and I also want to use a mid-mount mower, which keeps me from looking at the L series. There are a couple of other properties I may on very rare occasion have use for the loader and backhoe.

Originally I was pretty well set on the B2601. I don't need anything too big, and in fact for working around the woods the smaller size might be an advantage to some degree. But, now I'm leaning toward the B2650 some; a little more loader capacity would be nice. I plan to get a set of forks. And larger wheels I expect should provide a smoother ride on rough terrain, and better traction in the mud. And I'm used to ground contact mower decks.

Am I missing any advantage to going with a B2601 over the B2650?

PA452,

They are similar but different in every way.

The 01 is a standard model while the 50 series is a premium.

Premium means suspension seat, ratchet tilt adjust, telescopic sway bars, rubber floor mat standard, dual arm rests and cruise control. There may be a couple more features.

I am attaching a spread sheet that you can look at both units side by side and see that in the B2650 you get flat pout more of everything. Not a whole lot more, but everything is a little more. The caveat is that it is a little taller, wider and bare unit is around 150 lbs heavier.

Both are Kubota, so bother are fine quality machines. Good luck choosing!

Ooops! Forgot the spread sheet!

ROCKCRAWLER: Illustrative spreadsheet. Thank you for posting.

Neal Messick should review your spreadsheet before concocting his next 'B' Series video.

For around $1,000 difference it's a no brainer(IMHO).

I was faced with the same situation 3 years ago. I looked at them both but decided the B2650 was the better machine. Bought the B2650 and never regretted it. For the same size you could get the B3350 if you need more power. I have a small apple orchard and the 2650 is just right.

Kind of odd, but when I go to the dealer and sit on them both, I have to say the B2601 strikes me as more appealing in some ways. Seems more comfortable, and the slightly smaller size and lighter weight might have some perks for what I do. But, it would also be nice to have a little more reach on the backhoe, and that bit of extra loader capacity, especially being that I'll be getting a set of forks.

I have not seen the engineering numbers on it, but I would bet you a case of Corona that the B2650 is actually less ground pressure than the 2601 due to only 150-ish lbs heavier yet much larger diameter and width tire. So don't consider that little weight difference in to your decision tree.

The loader reach out, down, lift power and break out power are all noticeably greater.

I see the advantage to the 2601 being that it can fit into a shorter garage being 3.4" shorter. Go measure your garage door open height.
If you notice the green shading in the spreadsheet, you'll note that the 2650 beats the 2601 in every metric aside from PTO HP.

Cubic inches, power, loader lift height, 3 point power, ground clearance, fuel capacity, lower rated RPM.... There is nothing that a B2601 can do that a B2650 can not do better aside from fit into a smaller height garage. And it's really just a few dollars separating them... in grand scheme of things, $1000 here or there for a potential lifetime purchase should really be a "no never mind".

The L2501 would have went in my garage if it would fit, but the B2650 fits with about a finger width gap! I measured before I bought, it was a big part of weeding out brands and models. I wanted the most tractor that would fit in my garage.

But if that B2601 feels good to your butt-O-meter..... make it your baby!

Presumably heights are given with R1/ag tires.

I wonder if B2650 at 88.4" with R1/ag tires, would fit under an 84" garage door header when equipped with R4/industrial tires?

I can measure when I get home, but recall that I have the 40" tires instead of the standard 37" tires. So I'll be an inch and a half higher.

That comment made me realize who you are. I've watched some of your YouTube videos.

Coincidentally, I'd probably be buying from the same dealer.

Make sure that you talk to Sean Huegel and tell him you know me. He gets a kick out of how every customer has seen my videos and many have talked to me.

An offer for you... Come over and play on mine. I live in Economy Boro, just behind Cranberry Twp. You can actually play with it and not just drive around a parking lot!

PM me if you want an address.

I've been dealing with Nick. Bought a couple chainsaws through him before. But if I meet Sean I'll definitely mention it.

That's a great offer, and I'll happily accept! I'll shoot you a PM shortly. Thanks!

My B2601 seems to have most of the premium stuff the B2650 has. The main reason I got the B2601 is because it sits a little lower to the ground with R4 tires, most of the property I work on is on the side of a hill and on uneven ground and was worried about laying it over. Although I have learned a lot since I bought it and probably could have got by with the B2650, at least with rear wheel spacers. I also went with wheel spacers on the B2601. I use it to grapple logs, mow ditches and load pallets etc. so I still get good use of it.

The B2650 is 3.5" wider as well as 4.7" taller.... Negating your argument for lower. The width grows more than the height. As spacers and that width to height ratio moves even further in the favor of the B2650. It's simple math.

Hmm. If it got 3.5" wider and 4.7" taller, then I'm not sure I'd say the width grew more than the height. :)

But I presume it's the centre of gravity that matters, so probably the clearance that matters more than the ROPs height. The B01 is 325mm clearance, the B50 is 370mm clearance, for an increase of 14%. The B01 is 1245 wide, the B50 is 1365 wide, for an increase of 10%. Unless the engine is mounted a lot higher in the B50 than the B01, I'd say the centre of gravity is probably also ~10-15% higher, I'd call that basically the same stability, and as you say spacers would make a bigger difference than these measures would.

Sorry....
B2650 is 4.7" wider... and that is (53.7" / 49" = 1.0959) 9.6% wider than the B2601. (49" X 1.095)
B2650 is 3.4" taller.... and that is (88.4 / 85 = 1.04) 4% taller than the B2601. (85" X 1.039)

So doing some math, you see that the B2650 grows wider by over twice the ratio of height gain.
