I think the point that some are trying to make is that they shouldn't have the right of recourse.

Yes, I know that. However, one of those same people is insisting that a face cord is 1/3 of a cord, when in reality, a face cord has no depth measurement at all. It's just 4' x 8' by whatever the person selling it wants it to be.

Well, I am out. Getting ready to get back to cutting a tree down in a day or two. Temps have come up into the 50s so what snow remains (about 6") should be gone by then. Ground apparently is not frozen as I have seen no sigh of run-off.

Let us know how many cords you get out of it....

:)

If someone needs to buy a "face cord" and there stove will only take a 16 inch stick, they should order it 20 inch and cut 4 inches off it themselves and throw the cut offs in the stove 5 at a time to get there moneys worth.

Just don't do that before you go to bed..

People must just be screwing around. Need to get a winter hobby.

Do you think the logs are going to be cut different length, when they sell them in the cord stack, vs face cord stack?

How can you sell a cord, if you are so scared of buying a 1/3 of a cord? Only honest sellers sell cords? Dishonest sellers sell face cord, looking for high school drop outs to prey on?

Even if you can't do math, they give 3 dimensional values for both. I realize it is not uncommon or was, to estimate a face cord as 8' truck bed of wood. But anything you buy spread out in a pile, is going to be an estimate, cord or face. Pick it up yourself stacked, and you will know. Whether one face cord or 3 face cords. You are taking there word if you buy 3 face cords on trailer or dump truck.

But an adult should be able to say, I'll take that amount of wood before for the price they are asking. Free country, shouldn't need a nanny. I bet you guys are the same folks who report when kids sell lemonaid. Keep an eye out on the boyscouts and the popcorn. But I bet you never reported the cookie sales.

Yes, because when bucking, one tree is for face cords and one tree is cords. They mark them with paint to keep track. You will see it when you go out in the woods. Blue is cord, and orange is face cord, according to USF.

It seems to be mostly a yankeefied mentality thing...mostly here in the south wood is usually advertised and sold as a full cord or a "load" where loads are described by trailer or truck size and how it's loaded (level, piled etc.)

Here is a pic of a typical "load" of wood that would be described as a "full pickup load"...!

It is true. I was thinking the math thing. Was southern, but was afraid to say it these days.

Not to mention, southern are so knowledgeable of home heating.

I just lost my Pristine Stihl 036 PRO, having gotten pinched and then totally smashed. MY STUPIDITY! I was debating whether salvaging this huge fallen tree was worth the effort in fire wood. Now, I'm guessing certainly NOT!

Even worse. I'm told now, I can't even buy a comparable saw at any cost! Makes me question, why I even bother sometimes.

Makes you wonder how many CUT and SCUT owners here on TBN would actually need a tractor if it were not for working with fuel wood or dealing with snow...? I know here in the south there are a lot more of the latter than the former...

People in the north use tractors for what the people in the south do, our growing season is shorter so we actually use our tractors for many different tasks, some of which the people in the south don't..

If I just had mine for plowing and firewood I would have a 20hp+- with a front blower, a rototiller on back for the garden, and a trailer behind my ATV for the firewood, which I would cut and split in the woods. The problem is that cutting wood gets addictive... seeing that pile grow, then watching it go down the road on the back of a truck so that you can start all over again.
Plus that check from the mill adds to the fun. :)

I enjoy cutting firewood and burning it. But in KY is it worth screwing around with? Though what I do like about burning wood is having windows open for fresh air.

Also agree if it is not split or small enough to burn, probably not as quick selling. Most ads say split and seasoned.

I don't have a splitter. So I wait until it is dry and split it. You handle it more. I enjoy splitting it, but I am only doing enough for my camp, and not heating a home all winter, and I am not that old yet.

Yes, there is plenty of people in KY that still burn wood and coal in coal country. I am here in SC and heat 100% with wood. I have burned just over 3 cords this winter so I imagine in that area they burn as much or more.

All of those talking about natural gas. Most parts of the country do not have it beyond the cities or main arteries outside the city. I don't have the option within maybe 6 Mike's of my house for Natural gas and farther than that at my farm property. We do have propain but that's no deal to pay to have that delivered.

Ah but wouldn't my local cops love to stop that. Tickets wouild only start with "unsecure load" and wind up with "rolling violation".

Stihl MS 362 ...or current version (about time for the next version to come out). That is the no number method. It is an 036 in the new versions. It will outcut your 036 by coniderable. It is faster and also lighter. Old to new version number equivalent? Just remove the "0" from your old number 041 = 441

New number meanings 1st digit = displacement somewhat. second number =-Pro or homeowner grade. Even #s are pro-grade
Third number = sequentially up from starting with 1 for the initial version and on up. I had the 361 - great saw, wore it out, currently running the 362 I don't recall what the improvement from the 361 was.

My worst saw disaster was 2 weeks after I had bought a new MS192T, Ran over it with a load of wood.

I am up here in Washington state. Normallly burn 6-7 cord/yr. I have burned more than dthat this year and still burning 24/7.

An 041 and a 441 have nothing in common. The 440 and 441 are the sequential brothers.

It's not the first saw I destroyed. A brand new 034 got pinched in a tree, tree went down, saw fell out and got smashed.

I was looking at Saws today. Looked at a 60cc Echo Timberwolf. About the same weight as my 036 Stihl. I still have another 034 or 036 that got pieced together from that other destroyed saw. As I get older, I realized I don't like using the 036, (except to fell a tree or larger bucking), as much and opt for a really junky 017, which isn't up to the task, so maybe I should look at a 50cc saw. I am thinking about Makita (Dolmar) as well.
