STx,

How about an update on your switch to VZ? I believe you were getting a jetpack, then taking that sim to put into the mofi instead? Did this work? Is it truly unthrottled as well?

That is odd because I was trying to to band scanning without being connected by cable. It would cause the MoFi to lock up and need to be rebooted. Called tech support and they said it MUST be wired to use that function.

As for band locking the issue would be one band may be stronger so you will lock on to that band. But it may not provide the most through put. I have not really played with that yet as the tower I am currently locked on to only has one band.....

I've managed to lock-up my Mofi a bunch of times as well, sometimes needs a reset and sometimes a reboot will fix it. The hardware is pretty solid but the software/UI isn't real stable yet; there are a few parts of the UI that will generate broken configs and require a reset to get it functioning again. Not a big deal though, it's still a good value even if the software isn't fully baked yet.

The band lock is particularly useful for those of us with weak connections; I only have one band with strong enough signal to be usable, but when that band drops off temporarily and it's not locked the Mofi will switch to another band that is too weak to work at all and will never automatically switch back once the stronger band is available again. Locking it keeps it on the good band while the signal temporarily drops.

What Wi-Fi extender and is there any vegetation in the line of site between you and your in-laws?

Sorry, just saw you posted this. We use a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 extender.. There is no vegetation but part of our home is blocking line of sight.

I've been using Ubifi for about 6 months now without problems and good speeds. For the past 2 days speeds have been really slow - downloads speeds between 1 and 5 mbps vs an average of about 25. I haven't changed anything. The cell tower is 0.3 miles from my house. Is there an easy way to find out what tower my MoFi is currently using? I tried playing around with the interface and the only thing I can see is the signal strength is 'poor' :

Signal Strength: -110 (dBm) (Poor)
Signal Quality: -13.7
Diversity Signal Strength: -108 (dBm)

I do not have an ethernet port on my laptop to connect to the MoFi.

I think there's a decent chance it's locked into a different channel on a different tower. I've noticed that occasionally when mine loses the best tower it will switch to another band on another tower but will not switch back to the better band automatically when it is available again. You could see if this is the case by doing a channel scan to see if there is a stronger band available. I have locked mine to the best channel in my area to stop it from doing this.

I don't use a cable to connect to my mofi.
This may sound dumb, but have you rebooted it? I have mine set to reboot daily at 4 am.

If you lock a band, it prevents carrier aggregation from working. Carrier aggregation is when AT&T lets a large transfer use 2 bands to improve your speed.

Many times.

Now after tinkering with it and trying to switch bands I have lost the internet and can’t figure out how to switch back. Ugh.

I think I locked on a band and now can’t figure out to unlock. Usually I’m not this dense when it comes to tech things.

You might need to do a factory reset. Have you reached out to ubifi? They might be able to help when I had issues like this it was some box that wasn't checked in the settings.

This is the basic setup, APN should be "broadband" and the 2 bandlock tabs should look like this.

Post screenshots of your configuration and I'll take a look, if you'd like. The cellular setup is really very simple for AT&T. The Verizon setup, on the other hand, is a nuisance. Screenshot_20190602-125006~2.jpgScreenshot_20190602-125028.jpgScreenshot_20190602-125019.jpg

Thanks for that. I figured out how to do a reset and the internet is back. Still slow but at least it's back.

Entertainingly, that device is running OpenWRT or a derivation of it.

My internet speed is mysteriously back to normal (37 mbps). I have no idea what happened. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Probably just an issue with your tower, it happens.
