Two dogs I have never seen before running loose on my property. 5:00 am they set off the driveway alarm. Cause my dog to go nuts waking my SWMBO. One is a big Rottie. Not sure about the other. They both clearly have collars. When it gets light out I will go out and see if I can get close enough to determine who the owner is.

Sorry just had to b*tch...... too early in the morning for this.....

Not a lot you can do in my experience. It sounds like one instance and it happens. I have a neighbor that thinks it's his right for the dog to roam. Barks all night, funny thing is I dont complain about the barking but he knows its frustrating so he brings it up first in conversation stating his dog is doing his job.

Basically the law wont do anything for you until after someone gets bit or after it eats your animals. Around here if you can catch it during the act you have the right to protect your animals.

In my case he's just s real ****** dog owner. First dog he had I'm pretty sure it caused a wreck where the kid died in my front yard. I heard later that he found his dog dead in the ditch just ahead of where the accident started where the kid went through his brick mailbox.

His next dog was attacking the lady's animals down the street. She had all sorts, I recall it was attacking her peacocks at the time. She couldn't catch it in time and the dog ran home. Well she took her gun and went 3 houses down and shot the dog in the owners front yard. She went to jail for 2 years.

Third dog got hit and died. He immediately got a new dog but it's a puppy atm cant wait for the terror it will bring.

In the first week of moving in I had to come home from work to help my wife get out of our own house. A big dog from another neighbor jumped on her as she was coming back from an errand and wouldn't leave.

All four closest houses to me have dogs and they have all been in my yard. The old couple have an old dog that's over daily but he just roams, doesnt even bark. He walks away from me when I'm outside.

I also have a driveway sensor that's had been tripped a few times. It's pretty close to the gate so once the dogs learn they cant go that way they dont trip it anymore.

I guess I'm saying, you should feel lucky if this is uncommon for you. Dogs can sometimes find a way out. If you can, help the dog find its owner this time and maybe the owner just slipped on something or the dogs found a weakness in his fence he was unaware of and will now fix it.

If you have Animal Control, call them.

We have animal control. They are worthless in the county.

I will try to catch them and find an owner. Because it is the first time I have seen these dogs the only reason I am mad is because they set off the driveway sensor and woke us up.

We had a cute Walker dropped off on my dead end street. It wandered the neighborhood and my Wife finally made the mistake of feeding it. Now we have a dog, lol! The Walker would not stay in the 4 foot chain link fenced back yard. He continued to wander over to one neighbors house that fed their dog on the back porch (to eat it's food). They brought it to my house in the middle of the day (in the summer) and tied it up to my front porch with a bowl of water (which probably got turned over immediately) so the dog was without water in the Florida heat most of the day till I got home. The neighborhood dog continued to get out, supposedly terrorizing them. They called the police and the police told me to keep "my dog" in the yard or else. So I made a concerted effort to keep the dog in. Didn't work. The police were called again and they told me it was a $250 fine per day starting today for not keeping "my dog" in the yard. I explained that it really wasn't my dog, but that it was running the streets and I was simply trying to keep it from getting run over. Even the ad I had place saying "found dog" went ignored. The policeman said the pound was open till six, we made it in record time only to be told "we are not taking dogs today". We finally got them to give us a kennel to put on the front porch for picking up the dog in two days. Poor dog howled for two days while we were at work. I hope those neighbors hear those howls in their sleep. Their address was removed from my "help the neighborhood during a hurricane" list.
I hope the Walker was adopted!

Keeping a dog in a too-small kennel on a porch for two days is not something I'm sure I'd admit publicly.

Tying a dog on a 4 foot lease to a porch would be worse, but that is what they did. I didn't have a choice, I would much, much, much more preferred to keep the dog, rather than it go to the pound. Spending the money to "dog proof" my yard so that it would stay in was my issue. I probably could have purchased a 10 foot by 10 foot for it, but that isn't fair to the dog. The dog had to be contained in order for the pound to pick it up, and they supplied the kennel. We did let the dog out during the time we were at home, simply because we liked the dog. When we went to work, it had to be on the porch in the kennel in order for the pound to pick it up, and they couldn't give us a time so that we could simply take off work and be there. It took them two days to get it picked up, again not my choice.
With the issue of $250 a day fine, with the stipulations of it being in the kennel for pickup, please explain exactly what you would have done other than make the dog as comfortable as possible, which we did?

Yep. I could not get a pic this am as it was too dark. I only saw the dogs because they tripped one of my motion sensor lights.

Now of course the dogs are no where to be seen.

If they threaten humans or our livestock well.... Indiana law provides me a right of self defense. Plus there are three letter s.....

I wished we had our animal control back. The county did at one time, but they did a big purge of employees because of budget cuts and animal control was one of them.

When it was still here, though, they were very effective at explaining the laws to people, the ramifications of having a claim persecuted, and giving them a chance, but would fine and pick up animals, and or assist if needed.

Had a neighbor that thought that living in the country meant not having to control his two dogs, one of which got into our pasture and killed one of our animals. In the middle of the night, in a big rain storm, loaded both of his dogs up, into my pickup and took them to his home. Rang his door bell numerous times, then started pounding on the door. He eventually came to the door, i told him what had happened and left the dogs. A few weeks later he drove over to my place and wanted to know if i had called animal control on him, I said i had, because after the night i took his dogs back, they continued to show up, so obviously not controlled. He was upset as he jumped back into his pickup, that wouldn't start now, in the middle of my driveway, with no way around it......Sigh, i walk over to him and his pickup, ask if he needs assistance, he's baffled why it won't start, i pop the hood have him try, no click nothing. Then i tell him i'll tow him back to his house. Sorry, end of my rant, but that animal control person put the fear of G*d into him.

You are doing the right thing! I’d hope for a neighbor that would take the time to look at the tags. It’s part of our “job” as decent humans- take care of each other. When it’s your dog or goat, or your wife stuck in a ditch the neighbor will do the same for you. You’d be way pissed if they saw your wife stuck in a ditch, rolled down the window and said “call the cops” or “call a tow truck” “you shouldn’t have driven off the road” and then drove off.

If it's a one-time thing the animals may have just gotten away once. it happens, not just with dogs but with horses, sheep, goats, cows... all animals which I have chased out of the road on occasion. When it's habitual it becomes a problem. Hopefully you never see them again, neighbors who won't control their animals or kids are a real pain to deal with.

Get pellet gun with red dot sight, open a window no lights and don't stick muzzle out the window, no more than two days of a shot to butt and they won't be back, same thing with barking, wait for neighbor not home get nice hide so dog doesn't see you and butt shot after each bark. Use a flat nose 177 pellet it will leave a small red welt

Yep. As I said really only reason I needed to complain was they caused me to wake up at 530 am. If it happened at 730 am probly would not have posted.

I also wouldn稚 hesitate to stop if someone was off the road to see if they needed help or not.

Years ago someone I knew did something similar. The lesson he learned when Big George figured out what was going on is the kind of stuff folk tales are made of but the fact is that after 6 weeks in the hospital everyone around is one hundred percent sure he will never assault any other persons property again.

He'll I shot my own rotty when he got stubborn about not following commands in the field, twice when I was out with him I had people comment how on well he behaved, one was at a dog show from a Judge, second time was K9 cops asked me who trained him. Alpha male rotty's you have form a bond with. So in my opinion you would only be supplying the training the owner wasn't up to. Long way from animal abuse.

I train dogs!
I would never compliment you on this!
I would most likely take actions similar to Big George if you shot at my dogs with anything!

Remember your dog is your dog, my dog is mine. If you have a problem with what the dog is doing talk to me with respectfull words and I will respond in kind. Take actions on your own with my property on my property and face the unknown!

Not trying to sound like a tuff guy here or even be threatening to you but the reality of this is that it’s not your right to abuse my animals. If you find yourself in the local police car, ambulance or hurst because you pointed any type of a weapon at somebody else’s property please remember that someone who thinks like Big George did try to warn you.

Never said I was on his property, and I did speak to the owner and he admitted he didn't know what to do, only had to tap him twice an the occasionally puff in the dirt. Dogs like people need different amount of discipline, just like the nuns whacking me, I needed it. In Florida outside the cities dog running on your property with no owner in site is free to be shot. Years ago we had some dogs killing cattle, farmer drove down our road and shot every dog runny loose, even though it didn't stop the killing. Moral keep your pets, you control them and if you don't someone's might be more severe. That pack of dogs on Christmas night about 3am jump my rotty over some steak bones from xmas dinner left over, when I went out and put two rounds in the air the three turned on me, I took two out fired high on the third but he left. Me and roy the rotty backed up to large oak tree as I crammed more rounds in shotgun, finally sat down and looked him over lots of blood but only found a few punctures on him. Me I had skinned knuckles from running the slide and holding a three cell light. A Xmas and a dog I will always remember. Turned out to be my neighbors dogs, I never told him he was already crazy and committed suicide within the year. Isn't life strange.
