Anyone else have an unusually large number of hummingbirds this year?

What an amazing photo. I don't think I've ever seen a hummer in the snow.

My hummers today looked kinda plump. They were flying and feeding at only 20 some degrees outside. I suspect they they will go into torpor overnight. I need a hummingbird feeder heater.

We had a ‘fatty’ hanging around today as well. In fact bigger than any during the summer.

His big throat was that beautiful ruby color. Is that our local boys... I thought they weren’t so colorful?

And are you going with 4:1 mix?

That sure sounds like a male of our resident Annas Hummingbird (see picture). I am jeoulous, I only seem to see females and juveniles. My wife sees the males, but I seldom do. Yes, I do the 4:1 with organic white sugar so my liquid is kind of a beer color. Makes it easier to see the level.

I saw two at the feeder at once this morning. 30 degrees with light snow at the time. It is working out well to swap the feeders every morning to keep them from freezing.

We have a feeding frenzy and war going on this morning! Wife rotated the feeders after I told her the hummers were looking in the window and complaining about frozen food.

Must have about 6 including 2 males dive bombing each other. What I cannot understand is why they don't share the feeder? There are 6 feeding stations and 2 or 3 fight over exclusive rights!

I was late trading out my feeder this morning at 8AM with the outside temps around 20 degrees. Two were hovering around the frozen popsicle waiting for me to trade it out for the one from inside the house. I did not have time to watch, but I assume they came back to fill up.

Won't be long before the return migration of birds will begin. I'm not sure but have been told the same birds return to the same nesting area--and feeders--so we're getting ready. I heard some birds have been sighted in Florida along the western coast.

I filled my feeder yesterday and today it was already down 1/3 inch, not bad for just the resident hummers.
