Good morning!!!!

9 outside this AM. Temps suppose to be dropping. We had a small snow event move through late yesterday afternoon. It was horrible. With the cold air in place and the rain/snow line yet to be established it wrecked havoc in my area. I went to pick up daughter from a commuter lot east of us. The roads were wet and I just had a bad feeling about the weather since the temp was pegged at 31. Within half and hour on the return trip, the roads were really getting bad. Like, covered with snow, but it was icing over. The closer we got to the house, the worse off it was. On the return, people were flashing their lights at us, so I knew something was up ahead. We turned off on our road, just as the local EMS were coming on ahead. This AM, I heard of the fatality, and over 90 rescue calls in my county in a 30 minute time span.

Winter is unforgiving in this area. People are just not acclimated for anything else than near perfect roads.

I hope all are on the mends today. Be safe. Be careful.

It is the same up here in Canuckistan. They have a hard time driving on bare dry roads let alone snow covered.

All this talk about motorcycles of different makes, but no one has mentioned the Zundapp which was my first motorcycle. It was a 250cc machine that I bought in 1959. I think it was a 1955 model, but I didn't keep it very long. I understand the company collapsed in 1984, so that might be the reason none of you own, or have owned one.

39°F this morning and forecast for 56°F this afternoon.

Talked to my brother, in Iowa, a bit ago and it's -20°F there with -41°F chill factor. Our sister, in California, sent him this;

Plan on working in the shop this morning then ... drive to Houston late afternoon for a Visitation for a longtime friend who passed Sunday morning.

Hope everyone has an excellent Hump Day and all in the PV stay warm. I think today is the coldest day.

Prayers to all.

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 5:30AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High around 60F. Winds light and variable.

How 'bout Plant Wrangler, Don? It has a kind of Texan ring to it, don't cha think?

Got a call back from the seller of a bike over in Fallon, Nevada last night, so I'll be on the road at sunup to go fetch it. It's a mish mash of parts common to both the big dirt bike and touring bike I already have, but in so called "standard" trim with no fairing. It'll be an easy one to get both feet on the ground, something more important to me as I ,er, age. And no fairing means a cooler ride as Global Warming ramps up. Yes, I hope to still be on two wheels into my 80s, and this'll be the bike I'll be on.

Had a nice conversation with the electrical contractor yesterday, who came out to see where the generator would go and the service entrance it would connect to. He made a couple of good suggestions on placement, and will ask those at his company more in the know about the Cummins I have picked out. He did complain long and loud about the foot dragging going on at the Building Department in issuing permits, though. So much so that FEMA put everything on hold until their approval process gets reviewed and streamlined. :confused2:

I see in the news that Kalifornia's new Insurance Commissioner is suggesting government subsidies for those that can't afford homeowner's insurance. State subsidies aren't going to help if there are no insurance companies willing to underwrite policies. Last year my carrier declined to renew my policy, and none of the 24 major insurance companies I contacted would issue a policy. I finally found a small insurer new to the area that would, but have little hope they'll remain my insurer after the two year limit on dropping current policy holders expires. Even though my home survived the Camp Fire, most insurance companies will decline to insure it. Insurance works when a large pool of people having a broad spectrum of risk assemble into a single group of insureds. Insurance companies have segregated the high risk individuals, destroying the very principle that makes insurance work. Throwing taxpayer dollars at the problem will do nothing to change that, and it is very disappointing to hear the Insurance Commissioner suggest it as a first response.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

My very first "new" motorcycle was a Yamaha Big Bear Scrambler 250cc.

I am the first on with this idea and there were plenty of lookers when I was installing the PVC. I think they thought I was a plumber.
The blocks did not move when I put the front of the wheelbarrow on them to dump the mushroom compost.

I think I am going to have some serious competition with the garden bed to the East. I haven't seen them yet but every evening I improve my bed they improve there's the next day. Game on.:cool2:

OH, I'm a garden baby sitter. One of my neighbors who has a garden on the same row gave us some greens and broccoli and asked if we would maintain their garden while they were on vacation. What is a good name to use instead of a "garden baby sitter"? something a little more . . masculine since this morning talk is of Harley motorcycles, a garden babysitter seems kind of wimpy.

How about "the greenskeeper"

It was 4° this morning, yesterday was a really nice day a lot of sun and no wind it was in the high 30's. Today is going to be partly cloudy and in the mid 30's with a 10-15 mph wind. They are starting to back track on the storms this weekend. How they are saying maybe a chance of snow on Monday.

It was so nice yesterday, I was going to practice some welding. Moved the welding table to the sun in the garage door and started to cut up some steel and the chop saw quite working. About noon Fed X showed up with the tires I had ordered Monday. So the wife and ended going to town to have the tires mounted. We called some friends that have a cabin up here but live in the valley and went out to dinner with them. All an all it was nice day.

Going to get the tires back on the ranger and work on the saw are the plans for today.

Hope everyone stays safe that has to deal with cold and snow. Be careful.

CWB.
