Husqvarna 550xp repaired-ish

The only thing I have against Stilh is I cant find a place open Sat afternoon that sells them yet and I can never remember is the L before the h or h before the L, and that's a big scientific plus for Echo it's easier to spell and say.

My son has the Stilh 44 mag Mtronic and loves it at a $1,000.00 last year, it does start good, idles great and has the power. But has far as the one lever (start/stop/choke/fast idle) goes, I prefer the Husqvarna's one lever (start/stop/choke/fast idle) lever/button, and besides that I stil cant make up my mind is one lever or two better for (start/stop/choke/fast idle)

And one more thing I've been known in the past if I get so frustrated that I cant make up my mind about two products and if there's a way I can swing it, I'll buy both just to teach someone a lesson, and then after hearing from several people how they have 3-7 chainsaws and dont burn much firewood mayby I should buy both, right now I have just one saw for cutting the big Jon 2171 with 24" bar, not piratical tree falling, maybe ok for tree felling but I dont do tree felling I do tree falling.<<<rabbit trail.

I think that you would be happy with either the Stihl or the Echo, as they both are good saws. So is a Husky for that matter, I just don't seem to have the luck with them that others do. Of the last 5 that I've owned, only the 254 lasted more than 3 years.

I thought$1,000.00 was a lot of money for as saw but that's what my son paid for the Stilh 44 mag, he wanted a saw compatible to my Jonsered 2171, I paid around $700.00+ for that over 15 years ago, he tried to find one but Jonsered stop making that one, guess there all Redmax now and there not around here. I wouldn't mind having a Stihl, but open on Sat afternoon comes first.

I don't understand this paying a thousand dollars for a saw... There ARE deals around, if you don't get in a hurry.

I bought this 562xp NEW in the box with bar/chain about a year ago,

It cost me $549.00 and at that time Husky had a $50.00 rebate going, so $499.00 was my cost!

It's been a GREAT saw, with good power,

It's a nice running/idling saw!

I paid about the same for my 562XP a couple years ago and it's my favorite saw (have bigger and smaller saws but the 562 hits the sweet spot). MSRP on the 562 is about $750 now, which is getting up there if you can't find a discount.

I recall paying about $1100 for my Stihl 461 about 6-7 years ago, then another couple hundred for lightweight 28" bar, chains, etc, so that was an expensive purchase all together.

Just noticed that the 550XP Mark II is coming in March, might be worth the wait:

I see the Mark 11 is going to be heavier than the 550xp they now have...

Husky has been good to me, they always have the most power in the lightest weight, and are good saws...

I've paid 3000 for a saw before. Had a alot in the 1200-1500 range. All depends on what you want them for.

Now if you wait till a PBS in Ohio and other states have them too in NY KY etc. Thats when those cheap deals come along. Getting saws at cost.

Where are you buying a saw in a box that is bigger than a 550xp I'm now looking at and $50.00 cheaper?

I'm sure the 562xp has good power at 59.8 cc but dont think it has 70.7 cc power, when you get into 70 cc your now getting into sawmill saws. I paid $700.00 15 years ago for my 2171, and I think todays Stihl chainsaw are higher priced then Husqvarna especially when you buy it at a JD tractor place.

The biggest reason why my son wanted Stihl is he seen a commercial saying Stihl saws are made in US, 2nd, for the past 5 years he seen how hard my 550xp can be to start at times, and he seen and used my 2171 alot and liked how easy it started but couldn't find one last year, 3rd Stihl is just 12 miles away and that is a big plus but for me not being open Sat afternoon is a bigger minus.

I happened onto a dealer from Wi. that had a small pile of them at that price, I should have bought two.

The 550xp's he had, were 50 bucks cheaper...

Not tryin to jack thread but have a question ? But not worth startin thread over a question like this one IMO . QUES : Anybody knows why some aftermarket chainsaw bars have the oiler hole in bar up on top instead of on bottom of bar ? Like on OEM bar . Or does it matter ?

All the bars & saws I have oil holes on both sides, to allow the bar to be mounted right side up or upside down. I swap the orientation every time I sharpen the chain to even out the wear.

Dont worry about jacking any of my threads, if anyone has good info on saws this is as good as any place to post. I'll be getting a saw one of these weekends, just having a devel of a time making up my mind over Husky 550xp or Echo 501p, the problem is there not like cars just cant take it for a test drive.

Not sure if I know that answer,mabe someone else does.

I finally done it, I looked at both for an hour and the turning point was my new Husqvarna bar wont fit Echo and my son was getting antsy so I bought another 550xp but a different place. The first store they or she wouldn't come down an inch, from $629.95, so went to another place that sold 550xp for $569.95 + 5.5% tax. At the first place they supposedly nave top notch chainsaw repair guy so I left my old 550 there, but the repair guy took today off and the store clerk lady also the wife said he will call Monday to see if it's worth fixing and if it is, they might take it in trade. If they just offer $50.00 I'll have the Echo 501p, they are already a good $100.00 cheaper then Husky. I pay this much and I couldn't even get a bar guard what's up with that.

Me to it even sounds like a saw is supposed to sound like. Yesterday when I got home I just had to cut a few trees, and what do you suppose is the first thing that happens to a brand new saw with a brand new chain........darn rock, already had to resharpen it this afternoon so I could I cut some more trees.
