My brother has some of those. He put an axle under one and used it for hauling sand and firewood for many years. He could pull it with his tractor and dump the sand where he wanted it.

I am thinking about making a funnel attachment for one of them & adding a hydraulic dump cylinder to spread rock in the ruts that the tractor leaves in my road where I feed cattle.

I know my brother put an air bag and air tank under one of them, then he could dump it a few times before he had to drive over to his compressor and refill the tank.

That way he could pull/dump it with what ever he wanted.

Why take it out at all? Let it rot for the critters.

Tht's one of the most under-rated and misunderstood wildlife benefits. Wildlife likes a messy forest: downed wood rotting on the ground, brush piles, shrubby growth, the occasional standing dead tree, etc. A common mistake for landowners (especially new ones) is to come in and clean up their forest so it looks like a park. Then they wonder where all the wildlife went.

Aren't those hoppers supposed to be self-dumping? The ones we had a work were. They would stand up when empty, but dump when loaded, once you pulled the release.

Yep. But the poster said he wants if for firewood. That's a good use, too.

Depending on how they are loaded, sometimes you have to give them a push to get them over center...

My next challenge is getting the trunk of this birch in the background outta here. To the right of the tree in the front center of the water is a 4' deep watering hole. I don't know if there is a spring under here, or it's just a low spot that collects water. The water hole hasn't been dry in years, only briefly during our last drought. The animals use it to drink so I don't want to take a chance in contaminating it or driving near it. I do like a challenge.View attachment 585543

I'm still looking for the birch, all I see is water, rocks and maples..........

Got 6 of these dumping hoppers that were going to be scrapped where I work.

Part of them have holes in the bottom for water to drain out. I'm thinking about putting a drain in the others.

A full hopper lasts about 12 days.View attachment 585547

Who is EVA, is she/he/it under the wood?
