Looking very hard at the 3033R.
Machine weighs in at ~3000 lbs.

Need a trailer mostly for:
moving household & shop things
hauling landscape materials & lumber
maybe use for ATV/UTV's

Will not be transporting the tractor unless it needs to go to the shop.
So likely I'd only be toting the tractor and maybe the FEL/bucket.

Would like to get away with an 18' 7k trailer.
Not exactly sure what the price does to go to a 10k trailer.

Towing with a 5.0 Ford F-150.

Thoughts?

not looking for a lesson in state and federal laws or GVRW's, just opinions on best type and size of trailer.

Thanks

I'd say max 16', 7000gvwr trailer. Should fit the tractor and whatever you need to put on it that you've listed, and stay within the boundaries of things we're not giving lessons about.

16’ will work for very rare use as planned and 18’ will be fine. 7k is too light for a fully loaded machine but you said you weren’t doing that either so I think your 18’/7k trailer is fine. I’ve got a 5x8 trailer that’s my go to choice for doing stuff like that much preferred over my 16 foot but you couldn’t haul the tractor on that size trailer.

I wouldnt go for anything under 18'. My L3200 was about the same size & only fit my 16' tilting deck trailer because of the really long tongue. Even if 16' is enough to fit the machine on, you need some room to move it around & balance the hitch weight properly.

I'd go with a pair of 5k axles over 3k. It's better to have a bit excess capacity if needed than not enough. You are going to be looking at 3k lbs for the trailer itself then 3, maybe 3.5k for the machine. You'd be within 500-1000lbs of the limit. My tilting deck was overkill at 14klbs & heavy steel deck (made for a compact but heavy skidsteer I guess). It weighed 4k lbs.

A f150 should be fine, they are rated 9-11k or so for towing. I pulled the 7k load in the photos with my Tacoma (rated to tow 6.5k). It did it, but was a bit sketchy. I promptly got a beater F250 for hauling. IMG_20140209_110007.jpegIMG_20140209_103755.jpeg

The trailer weight itself is a concern. Of course the better built trailers are going to weigh more.
I was thinkin I could find an 18' 7k trailer weighing in around 2500 lbs. max,,,,, no ?
And if I go up to a 10k trailer, well, up goes the weight.

Been mainly lookin at second hand units, with no luck.
Reckon I need to go to some trailer websites to look at some weights.

I do want a minimum of 18' for other uses.

I already have a 6x13 enclosed trailer.

7k 18' would be around 2300-2500 and 2500-2700 for a 10k equipment trailer should be close. Nephew got a 14k 17+3 sure-trac universal ramp implement trailer that weighs 3030.

I have a Kubota L3800 which is probably a similar sized tractor. I'm looking at a bumperpull 18' deckover with 3' dovetail. I like the deckover trailers for their versatility. It you have pallet forks, you can side load everything. If it has stake pockets and a rubrail, you have plenty of places to tie-down and you can also build some sides for hauling mulch etc. It's probably the most versatile trailer there is. As far a weight rating, I'd get 10K. I'm having my deckover built for 12K, so it can be pulled behind a 1 ton and not hit the 26,000 gross limit.

I'd also vote for a 18', 10K trailer and I own a 16', 7K trailer. :confused3:

My feeling is a little more trailer is a lot better than just enough trailer. I would go 18' and 5000lb axels. You'll never complain about having too much room on the trailer. Plus, the cost and weight difference isn't even that much, I think you'll be happier in the end....

A 20 foot 10k tandem equipment trailer with electric brakes on both axles is what you need. No one ever said they wished their trailer was shorter

He only intends on hauling the tractor very sparingly. I’d hate to be dragging around a 18’ 10k trailer for other choirs.

Is it a tilt trailer?
I'm happy with my 22' deckover power tilt Diamond C. I upgraded from a 16' gravity tilt. Steel deck & 7k axles. Got it used at an auction, small local OEM. I assumed I was upgrading to another longer & nicer gravity tilt, but went another way. A gravity tilt loads a vehicle much nicer. No ramps, low angles, nice. But if you have any impliments (or machines) over 81-83", you have fender clearance issues. The back 10-20% of the deck isnt usable due to balance issues (deck needs to pivot dead center & that has to be between the axles). Can be resolved a bit with a small fixed deck up front. But the killer for me was loading other stuff. Fenders just got in the way. So I ended up with the deckover power tilt.

Deck angle is a lot steeper & a bit of a pain. The extra height makes chaining a little harder at times. Despite 80% of my hauling being the tractor I'd still go with the deckover though.
