Should I add it? Can't think of any use for me, don't need a snow blower, but only $377.00, or can you add later easily. Watch all those messick videos about snowblowing for a loaded grand l5460, I've put almost ever option it.

I would not.

There is a possibility that forward oriented PTO will plug with fine sand unless you use it regularly. Which would require a shop visit to clean out, before you could use it.

Mid-PTO will tempt you into swamps, to try to spear hogs with the forward oriented stub.

You deserve every option. Did you order the single or multi-flavor soft ice cream dispenser?

What decision, or interim decision, did you make on tires? Foam in your future?

One would think.it comes with a screw on cover, but neither of us knows that answer, so I'll wait for a knowledgeable answer, just like the guy who recommended water pump additive rust preventive and lubricant answer. Along with the good advice I got on front and rear camera's.

Took awhile to find the right search terms "PTO shaft cap"

Re: PTO Shaft Cap
On my TC29D, the mid pto has a plastic push on cover that has never been taken off, and probably never will be.
I have the screw on cap for the rear, and put it on when I'm not using the pto.
The manuel say's<font color=blue> " The PTO cap should always be installed when the PTO is not in use"</font color=blue>
It does not give the why. I figure it's to keep dirt, debris, and moisture off the shaft.

More reading … front sweeper and flail mower. Just watched a video of front flail clear over grown fields, does much better job than a rotary with lots more precision and less likely to throw debris but very expensive. So the real question we don't know is if you buy it and can be added later, well I don't see any listings for dealer kits. Which to might mean that some internal geared spline might not be there. I also think having it brings the machine into the realm of commercial machinery, ie paving company, mowing company and might add to the resell value. So considering it is a cheap accessory I believe I'll add it. So that makes two options I'm buying with no known use, 3rd rear hyd and mid pto each around $300.00. Or a little less than one monthly payment and with 0% loan I think it makes sense.

You can add a mid PTO to the Grand Kubotas later on. I believe it's even suppose to be customer field installable.

Snow blower, rotary broom or flail mower are the only common front mount PTO impliments. Although "common" is probably a pretty extreme exaduration for the broom & flail. I love my flail & it can be setup for front mounting, but it's a bit heavy for that.

Looked at messicks and number of kits are there, but could not find a specific version, but about twice the price of new order.

I would add it now. Whether you think you will need it or not. If it is there then you have the option to use it without having to add it.

Since it is only $400, I would add it now. I wish I have a mid-PTO on my tractor. Now it is too late for me.

I apologize if this was mentioned earlier, but adding a mid PTO is not always straight forward (WRT Grand L's). In some cases the kit can be added with minimal work and others require a complete split of the tractor to add the necessary "internal gear". For Grands L's it depends on the HP and rops/cab configuration.

If nothing else, make certain your configuration has the internal gear to prevent splitting of the tractor later on. I've added the mid-PTO kit on one of my tractors and it was very easy to do as it already had the internal gear.

Mid-PTO's were discussed in this old thread https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/374109-l3940-rear-snow-blower-front-post4665488.html#post4665488
Please refer to the Post 35 and the 2nd page of the attachment. It's information from the Wholegoods pricelist that has a good bit of info concerning mid PTO. (The document is already a couple of years old, so please confirm accuracy with your dealer.)

It depends upon the model that you have.

Yes, a mid PTO can be installed after build on all models upon which it is an available option but it is not cost effective to do so on some models because some require a split.

Two years ago, I bought a GK6060 ROPS.I usually buy ROPS tractors to allow worry free operation beneath trees, etc.

I considered a mid PTO upon purchase even though I had no need for one at the time. My salesman told me that it could be easily installed later for about $650. As it turns out, this is true for cab models but not ROPS models. For whatever reason, Kubota has decided to build GL ROPS tractors without the internal shaft needed to mount a mid PTO. Installing the mid PTO is easy but installing the internal shaft and gear requires a split making after build installation non cost effective. A similar situation exists for the B3350SU and, probably, others.

Earlier this year, I stumbled across a very good on a sold but unused snow blower for a GL6060. Though I did not really need it, it was such a good deal that I would have bought it anyway. This is how I found out about the internal shaft/gear.

Verify your application with Kubota and do not take your salesman's word.

I would just pay the $377 and get it. There is no downside other than cost and a small reduction in ground clearance. Ground clearance is why I did not buy it for my GL6060.

No, it does not, but exposure is not an issue in all but extraordinarily unusual situations.

Such kits are so called "whole goods," which must be ordered differently than parts.

Wednesday I'm placing my order and will add it in, although with cost of that front hitch and the fact that FEL has too come off to use it I doubt I'll ever use it, but I think it could help with resale value, makes the tractor of more use to cold climate group.

i ordered my JD 4720 cab that I have a few years ago with a MM PTO - i owned this tractor for about 4 years and never used the mid PTO.

I think the third rear hyd will be the same way but $650 on a $50k tractor with 0% financing why not.

To build on this. The kits found in Wholegoods are not twice the cost. They are generally the same if adding the option to a new tractor or purchasing afterwards.

What about cost of installation?

What about cost of installation?

Probably depends if you're installing yourself or the dealer is installing. And the cost to the dealer is the same either way, but you have transport each way to pay for, and less leverage to deal for a free install from the dealer.

"Free install?"

It's been a long time since I've seen one of those.
