Unless it can beat out the Toyota HILUX for indestructibility... then I would say "no".

Google 'Top Gear Toyota Hilux' for evidence.

DISCLAIMER: I own a HILUX

I've been reading about the "upcoming Jeep pickup" for years... I will believe it when I see it.
However, in every article that I read one thing remains clear; they have forgotten the simplicity which made the original Willys great.

I checked with the local Jeep dealer this spring. They indicated that the Jeep pickup was a "project in the works". Like most all other pickups - be it the best or also ran - - it's bound to be very expensive.

They did have a unit that was a mod of the extended body style Jeep. It was custom built by some company in CA. Starting price was around $115K. Probably some wheat farmer from down in the Palouse will buy it for his son.

See a lot of that around this part of the world. The ultra Corvette pulls into a gas station - an 18 year old kid get out - he is wearing a plaid flannel shirt - bib overalls and a pair of Mucks. The custom license plate says - "WHEAT".

I'm with you 100%, but in this part of the world it's called a Tacoma. I put a lot of miles on a HiLux diesel in Afghanistan under some of the worst conditions imaginable and they just keep on running. Wish I could get the diesel in the states.

Looks like it would be a fun lifestyle truck for weekends & whatnot, but I think I'll keep my F150.

I've been a Jeep owner for many years. Currently have a 2006 Wrangler Rubicon - last of the good old straight 6 engines.

Jeep (Fiat) is going to have to improve their quality control game a lot for me to invest in a new one. If you go on the Jeep forums all you hear about is all the problems the new ones are having. And the prices! Just for the heck of it, I went on the Jeep web site and "built" a new Rubicon...$54,000 and that didn't include all the fancy options.

And unless it has a minimum 6-1/2' bed, it ain't a pickup. Just an SUV with an open hatch.

The original Willy's only had a 6' bed, and 6000gvwr. I still would like to have one.

But it only weighed a bit over 3000 lbs and was called a 1-ton pickup.

I've had two pickups and one wagon. :)

Looks to much like for some kind of wannabe or weekend warrior.

But if I could buy it engineless for under five grand and put in some old technology Isuzu engine, it might serve a purpose.

I'm a Jeep freak too.

The pictured "Jeep Pickup" is what my gang calls a "Mall Cruiser".

There is a guy outside Orillia, Ontario off Horseshoe Valley Road that has many Willys Jeeps. As long as you keep one of his pogo green he might sell one. Keep in mind this guy is a little eccentric.

Personally I think it fits perfect for some people. When I got out of college I had a Toyota pickup. Used it to haul an atv, dirt bike, and get in and out to hunting spots. I always wanted a Jeep but didn't want to always tow a trailer so this new Jeep would have fit me great. Not just a mall cruiser, but for people that just need to haul some mulch from Home Depot and get out to hunt it may fit their needs fairly well.
Personally I don't really care for the rear styling, but then again I love my 2Dr Wrangler and skipped getting a 4dr due to the length.

The Tacoma and the HiLux used to be the same, but they're very different now. Superficially - on the outside - similar; this isn't the 80s anymore.

the HiLux and Tacoma are 2 very different vehicles. don't see the comparison at any time. from the ft end on up. actually the HiLux was closer to the old original Land Rover, a far cry from the cushy suburban ride of current pickups. no comparison.

Ya, the sheet metal looks the same but that's about it. Different frame, obviously the diesel engine.

I'd wager they traded some of the crumple zones & safety features for durability. The American & European markets tend to be a bit more safety conscious. All things considered as much as want durability id rather have the safety if it ever came down to it.

I've had a Jeep - of one type or other - ever since we moved to AK in '65. My current one is 2006 TJ Sport with the last of the good straight sixes.View attachment 581242

I read an article that compared the Jeep to the Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger (new), Toyota and Nissan, and the #1 thing I came away with was the Jeep has a bed 56" wide and the others are all around 44" wide. If you want to haul plywood, sheetrock etc., the Jeep is the one to get.
