Hydraulic cylinder aid?

I took the cylinder to be repacked. When I got it home, I could barely open or close the cylinder manually. Now it's compressed too much to align it on my loader. What are some ways to pull it out without hurting it?

Hook it up and use the hydraulics.

Be careful...moving the rod with the ports open can shoot oil with some force...!
best to connect to the hoses and extend normally...

Blow it with compressed air. It’s best if you have a hose on the other port going into a bucket to catch most of the oil.

I can't use hydraulics, there is no way to attach the cylinder to the machine so it just stays put. The pub can't go through the end of the cylinder locking it in place

One does not have to have hyd cylinder attached to implement to extend/retract rod when utilizing tractor hyd's to power cylinder. One can lay cylinder on shop floor or ground while extending/retracting rod.

I guess I was not giving it time to work it's way back into the cylinder. I've been fighting a Fuel leak so it doesn't run very long. I finally was able to get extension! Thanks for the help!

Thank you. I figured this out just before check-in here. If you can't tell, I'm new to this stuff. I've used this equipment for some time, but never worked on much.
