Yanmar connecting rod replacement

Hi so I finally got the bottom end all taken apart on my ym2000, the rear connecting rod spun a bearings but luckily crank looks like it can be re done. The connecting rod on the other hand is pretty blue so I am thinking that it should probably be replaced, if I put a new or used rod in place of the old will I have balancing issues? Is there a difference between front and rear rods and or part numbers and or markings?

Both connecting rods are the same. You will not have any problems using a new or used rod or a combination of the two.

Do you happen to know if the rods are used on other engines? I know there are like three different types, 2tr20a, 2tr20, and I think another one.

They are the same on all of the YM2000 engine variations and also used on lots of other tractors including the 1600, 1700, 1900, 2210, 3000, 3110 and others.

Here it feels like the end of the world. That the climate change disaster just hit us headon. These news photos - 50 miles apart - represent all of Northern California while the Camp Fire burns 150 miles north of us. 42 dead so far and sure to be more found. No rain since Easter, none forecast, just low humidity and high winds returning to where this fire began. Breathing here feels like when you use too much Clorox cleaning the shower. I read that Sacramento is handing out particulate masks, the same ones firefighters use, free at all firehouses. There's no place to get away from it.

Southern California is similar, and with the celebrities down there it probably gets more news coverage. I read a quarter million people were under evacuation orders there at one point.

Just ordered a rod from you guys today, just have another question, I am measuring pistons skirts and they are 3.4605in which is 87.8967mm. So my book says factory new is 3.5379-3.5391in with a max limit of 3.5354in that means there is a difference of .0749 that means my pistons are smaller than factory. There is no way I have that much wear in bore, so maybe someone put piston and liners in?

Seems like I have a 2tr20 engine but tech plate on side of engine casting says 2tr20a. Pistons do say yanmar inside so it痴 one.

I will have to check later with dial bore gauge but I did for the heck of it use my vernier calipers that are accurate to .0001 and got 87.9500 keep in mind there was some carbon. Bores are definitely 88mm but not sure why in a 2tr20a. Is there any more spec plates other than one on side of engine?

I don't know why yours is not lining up with book specs unless book specs aren't correct. Based on your measurements your skirt only has .0015" clearance. Clearance called for is .0043 to .0068" with a wear tolerance of .0118".
You probably need to check the liner at several locations with the bore gauge and sounds to me like you might be good to go. The plate on the side of the engine should be correct, at least my opinion. Serial number, tractor model number is on transmission Find out where your tractor serial number is located. but the tag on engine should identify it.

I don't think any of the English service manuals cover the 88mm version (2tr20). Your service manual is for the 90mm version (2tr20A). If you swap the pistons, sleeves, and head gasket together you can use either size in that engine.

Just use the wear limits as the guide and ignore the 88 or 90mm part. For example, according to the service manual, the wear limit for the 84mm engine's piston is 83.8. The wear limit for the 90mm is 89.8. So... it makes sense that the wear limit for the 88mm would be 87.8.
