My Samurai has been loaded with concrete sacks, firewood, broken concrete and never missed a beat...

Greatest powered wheelbarrow I have even owned!

Only paid a $1000 for it 22 years ago... worth ever penny and good mileage too.

Salt wiped them out here years ago, but I still see a few when I get out to BC. One near my buddy's place this year was plated, but nicely setup for trail use - offroad oriented tires, with a heavy poly-line electric winch on the front.

^ Right tool for certain jobs...... narrow, light, decent gearing...... easier to put through trails than many bigger trucks. Good trucks for what they were..... part of why they were "moved" out of our markets....

My 88 Samurai is 30yo, and the fully-boxed frame still has no rust. That is despite its living near the beach in Santa Cruz before I bought it.

It seems to me that new 1/2-ton pickup trucks of all brands could benefit tremendously by getting rid of those crappy C-channel frames and go fully boxed. That would really help in the rust department.

I like fully boxed for strength df, but around here, we still get plenty of internal condensation (hot/cold+humidity). Guessing it's fairly dry at your home elevation?

Not here. I live in the coastal rainforest, and get 60" rain per year, all from OCT-MAY. Big trees, mudslides, winter fog.

The problem with C-channel frames is not the cold or wet, it is the salty dirt that collects on the open frame members. On the Samurai, the rectangular box tubing that forms the frame is factory-coated.

Not sure what you mean by that. Anything less than a "half ton" aka 1500/150 is nothing more than a power wheelbarrow IMO. And you don't really even gain anything on fuel mileage either.

We investigated buying a pickup to tow a sailboat. Standard parking spaces in Boston are 20 feet long. Unless you bought a Regular Cab, they don't fit.

A regular cab F150 with 6.5' bed is the shortest model at 209" long and 80" wide (without mirrors). They go up to 250". We bought a Tahoe at 204". And a utility trailer.

An extended cab Power Wheelbarrow (I mean, Colorado) is 212" long.

True, rolled edges on C channel seem optimally designed to trap debris.....

Seen boxed tube get pretty chewed up..... road-brine is now magnesium chloride here.... makes the blood in the first Alien movie look like tonic water...

Yeah, nothing can survive indefinitely in a frequent bath of MgCl or NaCl, Dave. I do not miss my
days living in MI, OH, and MA winters. Ocean salt can be brutal as well.

Are the only boxed-frame PUs sold in the Americas 3/4-ton and bigger? Someone on TBN surely knows.

Even the venerable gen-1 Toyota Tacomas, made here in Fremont, CA suffered from rusted-out frames (made
by Dana Corp, Stockton, CA).

Correct...no RUST, but aluminum does CORRODE.

Per: Ford F-150 Cab & bed leave chassis crash! - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum that truck was going around 100MPH (stolen, in a police chase) when the driver lost control spun around and hit a Camaro going ~50MPH in the other direction with the truck's rear bumper.
With a 150MPH closing speed and a rear end collision, I am not surprised.

Our 2010 F-150 has a boxed frame so I guess that goes for the 2009-2014 generation. While we just picked it up this past summer with 205K miles it rides and curves so fine. It is max tow rated at 11.2 K pounds so it was a low cost option for this hobby use.

We got it to take our two antique tractors to events. The daughter will be driving her 1966 Ford 3000 with the one arm front end loader and I will be on the 1948 Model B Allis Chambers for the Murray Veterans day parade.
