29 and going to a high of 36F. Wind N 11 mph. Snow and rain today.

It is snowing and we've got about 3/4" so far. It wont stay, the ground is not frozen and the temps are going back to the 40s by halloween.

Today, I think I am going to conserve energy.

L4N, conserving energy sounds like a good plan.

Every year, I take all the stove pipe out and clean, and then clean the chimney. Every few years I replace all the stovepipe...I did this yesterday only to realize I needed one more section of pipe, so I'll seek that today. It takes two 90 degree adjustable sections, twisted just right to make a long 90 degree turn, to reach from the back of the woodstove into the middle of the fireplace, then about 3 feet to get up where it contacts the fireplace chimney.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 37° with overcast skies this morning. Heading to 44° with rain most of the day. Fell asleep way to early last night. Been awake since 2am hoping to get some more sleep. Did not happen. So today is going to be rest day. Maybe some NASCAR in afternoon.

Our children, relatives, neighbors, friends and TBN have been very supportive. Wife and I have used "thanks" so many times recently we are afraid of wearing the word out. THANKS.

Eric, just wondering if you've ever watched the Nigella Lawson cooking shows in the past. She has a new series out on PBS here stateside. Always thought she was very easy on the eyes to watch cook. So my son is picking up this extreme south Texas accent, that he seems to even exaggerate....I'm thinking he needs to come over there for some finishing school....

Kyle, most of the time we manage to keep clear of the upper-classes. When you bring your family over to visit, any schooling your young knight receives will more likely be fishing than finishing.

Nigella's dad is most definitely upper class - a wealthy Baron and former Chancellor of the Exchequer in Margaret Thatchers government.

A lovely clear morning for us, with last nights brilliant moon still refusing to take a nap 3 hours after sunrise.

When I woke up, one look at the daylight pouring through the window told me I was already running an hour late before my day had even started. Our clocks went back an hour last night and my "smart" phone alarm automatically adjusted itself, but it wasn't smart enough to realise poor Max would be crossing his legs.

I had an energy conservation dilemma too. With the kitchen range still having plenty of glowing embers in the firebox, I would normally throw on more wood and wait for the heat to build up before sliding the kettle over to the hotplate. Or would it be better to try and pull back an extra 15 minutes or so on the day by resorting to the electric kettle instead? Why is life full of so many tough decisions ? :laughing:

That made me wonder - our electric kettles normally have 3 Kw heating elements, allowing electric kettles to boil pretty fast. For those of you on only half our supply voltage (UK is 230V), you would need a hefty current down a heavy cable to get near that sort of power. I'm guessing it must take you a fair bit longer to make a cup of tea - maybe another reason why, if you are going to take your time, so many of you prefer coffee ?

33 right now....we got maybe an inch of wet snow yesterday. As today's high is in the low to mid-40's, I reckon the little we got will be gone by this afternoon

I got my two woodstove chimnies cleaned, inspected and WETT re-certified last week. I am just waiting for the paperwork, now.
We got maybe a cup full of crud out of both of them. High fires ARE the way to go and dry wood helps, too.

Decided to enjoy the colors of dawn up a tree back in the woods. Just now seeing some direct sun rays through a gap in the trees as 3 squirrels play in the treetops. Climbing that fast up a tree would be the next best thing to flying like a bird.

Eric, I use a kettle on the stove every morning to boil water to make coffee, and in the evening to make tea, usually white, green or herbal. But coffee just tastes better .

36F foggy low 40's for high.
About 1" wet snow yesterday has just about melted but to wet blow leaves...lot of leaves from gusty winds,so I be picking limbs/branches today getting little things done outside I can,might even watch little nascar football.
Heard single gun shot at distance guessing youth saw deer on the last day...3 slow drive by checking our small fields this morning.

Our clocks went back an hour last night

Apparently you get off Daylight Savings Time a week earlier than we do. Our clocks go back an hour next Sunday. 53 degrees here this morning, going for a sunny 84 degrees today.

Good morning. At 0805 it's a sunny 53F with 96% humidity. Forecast high/low of 78/62F with no chance of rain. I got all my gas cans moved off the front porch last night. Need to get the new generator moved {after I dump the load of limbs in the Kabota}, then we are running to Marianna to work on filling the empty freezers and fridges. My seed collection is the only thing in the freezer right now. Two kitchen trash bags worth. We haven't plugged in the 2nd freezer yet. No use it running empty.

Dish man came yesterday, replaced my dish with one not twisted the wrong way. Now I can watch the Mexican GP like civilized folk.

I got the mower out to mow some leaves, ended up mowing half the lawn. Mowed along the creek since i skipped it last time. Saw a critter I've never seen before go running up the creek, looked like a muskrat, when i googled the pic. Lots of deer tracks where they cross the creek.

My clock went back last night, that's when ours used to change.

Found this metal with my mower blade today, down near the creek. I have mowed this area for years with my riding mower. My blades are 10 yrs old, might be time for new ones.
