If I am doing something up high, and I know the hook will come undone, just to make more work, I just use a shackle which I always carry one or two. Nice big ones that don't get jammed up.

I am surprised that no one mentioned the best temporary chain/latch lock available, cheap and everyone has a bag of them.

Sure but then you need to have along cutters, more ties and you end up with wasted ties all over property.... Worked with Zipties for years in telecommunications industry and my feeling is yes they will work but are not practical in this application... At least for me...

5/16 "grab" chain hooks ...Another poster though they may be hardened but I found out not, by drilling them....
