Flail mower for YM 1510D

Hi,
I would like to use a 42 inch flail mower with my 1510D tractor.
According to the data of the manufacturer of the flail mower the HP needed for this size is from 20-35 HP
Am I able to do this with my tractor or is it not a good idea.
Any experience on this.

Never used one but I would have to believe and respect the manufacturers information. You would be 5hp short and that seems a lot to me.

Agree. The 4 ft rotary mower I bought for the YM240 is almost more than the YM186D (YM1510D) can handle. It works the little guy real hard mowing high weeds. There's a photo in this old thread where I stalled in high weeds I couldn't cut no matter how slow I went, I had to back up and take a 1/3 cut to get through this part.

I've read that a flail mower needs more hp input than a rotary mower, for any given size.

For me - If a neighbor etc had one at a good price I would likely buy it, and take maybe 30 inch cuts when I got to tall grass. But I wouldn't choose that if I were buying new, I would go with a rotary mower instead.
