Happy 4th of July, All!

59 right now...high in the mid-90's. Wife and Stepdaughter are doing the shopping and cooking today...my task is to drink cold beer and watch. Good plan, eh?

Be safe, all!

72 going to 88 today, much cooler thankfully with thunderstorms likely.

Mostly, gorgeous boat, I want to go for a ride!

not much planned today, I think Roy has the right idea.
Might drive downtown tonight to see some fireworks by the river.

Desert Rose loves the heat. Would make a great plant for Texas and NM.

That's a nice plant....wonder how it would do in the north east?

ok if you take it inside during the winter, which I had to do. It loses its "sun" leaves and grows indoor "shade" leaves.
Then you put it out in the Spring and it loses those indoor leaves, grows outdoor leaves, and blooms constantly.
It was given to me as a gift in bad shape and I got it going again.

Was reading an article on July 4th celebrations and as expected, there's a big one in Texas:

Granbury's Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration
Presented by the Granbury Chamber of Commerce in this Texas town, about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth, the 4th of July celebration is a two-day affair. You can bet this means there's a lot more than just fireworks on the agenda.
CEO Mike Scott says they're expecting somewhere around 50,000 people to attend the events, but he noted that the parade alone draws a crowd upward of 20,000 folks. Those are impressive numbers for a town with a population of less than 10,000.
The celebration takes place in the historic townhouse square. Purchase a beer from one of the bars on the square's perimeter (open containers are OK here), before grabbing a bite from one of the many popular food vendors. From turkey legs to fruit kabobs drizzled in chocolate to classic Filipino dishes, the food scene is a draw in and of itself.

Happy Independence Day!

I read the Declaration of Independence this morning, as I do every 4th of July...can only imagine what life was like then and the great wisdom, strength and bravery of our founding fathers.

A bit of wisdom from Thomas Jefferson: "To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt...I am for a government rigorously frugal and simple."

Happy Independence Day!
A bit of wisdom from Thomas Jefferson: "To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt...I am for a government rigorously frugal and simple."

YES!

do you notice a remarkable silence in government about the concept of a balanced budget?
They are running amok with our credit card.

Thank goodness we have elections that mean something. We sure learned a lesson this time.

I will forgive a lot of politicians' greed if they would only demand a balanced budget.
Just don't charge your greed to me...

As I just put checks in the mail to pay my bills on time, this always annoys me.
And now we are playing political football with our economy. The economy that was doing so well.
Time will tell.
I'm proud of our Country, and I wish I could say I was proud of our politicians.
Maybe that is a universal feeling.

So my flags fly for my Country and all those who believe in true Democracy.

Don, I am sure it is time well spent. I just grew up with a production mind set. If you don't get something useful, tangible, it was a waste of time. I know that it is not true but can't get my mind to accept different. Enjoy your spinning class.
Ed

I know the exact feeling. There is production. The purpose is two fold in the spinning class. 1. heart muscle - to keep it strong. 2. To prepare leg muscles for regular bike riding in these hills. So many things are just a short bike ride away an these smooth wide roads. I could save many miles of driving and fuel usage.

Good morning! My wife is ahead of me in organized community participation, she has three points, personal trainer sessions at fitness center, rumba classes and now Spanish classes, All I have is Spinning, I have emails to the Horticulture club but I think they really only assign new people vegetable beds once a year in January. I have room to make my own garden but it would be nice in a group competition setting and using their water and organic materials and tractor, And like Ed and I need - there is production!! There is also a giving back to the community like Drew has taped into with all their extra organic vegetable production - eat what we can and donate the rest.

well at least Toppop couldn't have gotten seasick in that calm water.

somehow got poison ivy on back of neck, think it got behind my soft collar while weedeating, all kinds of itchy welts.
Calamine lotion has helped. I let the sun get on it for awhile today and that seemed to help. Might be an itchy night.

not sure if I turned off water in garden, actually sure of it, but not that sure. If nothing else, check for rabbits.
Need to keep moving so the bugs don't bite.

Drew, I keep this handy just in case I get into poison ivy.

Use the cleaner first, then the gel. Works great!

77 degrees here in Colorado County this morning. Storms to get here by late morning and forecast looks like a wet week ahead.

Happy 242nd 4th of July to all!

The low was 41* this morning. It made it up to the high 80's yesterday with partly cloudy skies and a lot of wind. Today is going to be in the 80's with less wind and partly cloudy skies.

Looks like a moose got a couple of poles an the fence. I'll get that fixed today before we go up to a neighbors for BBQ this afternoon.

Happy 4th of July to everyone. Hope you enjoy it.
CWB.
