Road Rage in Florida

/ Road Rage in Florida #21
Rode in the past, not recently but will again. Prefer the dirt though. There's no brake check that would bug me seeing I stay multiple car lengths back and never go on the highway. So that makes me wonder what this guy was doing. A motorcycle on your bumper with the headlight beam bouncing off your rear view is kind of unnerving.

Yeah, with texting compounding the cell phone distraction, drinking, in addition to in hurry and general dumb a$$nes of the driving public, my Harley sat last summer and will be for sale this spring.

I sold my last bike when I moved up here to Atlanta area 10 years ago. I was intending to buy another bike once moved. But then my job had me driving 1000 miles per week and saw a continual decline in driving ability or care. I couldn't buy another bike. I've often thought I'd like to live in the middle of nowhere out west so I could ride with a lot less people around.

Probably slammed on his brakes in an attempt to get the biker off his butt. Sometimes called a "brake-check". Some people think its a good way to get tailgaters off your butt, but in reality, it's a d*** move.

I've done brake checks for years- to make sure that the precipitation isn't freezing to the road. Always after checking to make sure that nobody is behind me.

Coincidence, saw that movie on the weekend. Disappointing!

Road Rage Leads To Chain Reaction Crash Near Santa Clarita - YouTube

A more action packed car/motorcycle debacle.

Not to defend the biker; yet I can't imagine what he did throwing a car out of control like that. I could be mistaken, but it looked like the car driver tried to retaliate and lost control.

They have found and arrested the biker after 8 months, and charged him with causing the accident. The sedan driver has not been charged.

They obviously know more than I learned from watching the 30 second video clip. Hopefully he will get what he deserves, which should include talking to new drivers in DE classes.

Yes it does look like that to me also. Both of them should be in trouble if that video impression is accurate.

Perhaps, but why is the biker tailgating to begin with?

Why should anyone tailgate? Bad move on the person in the back. Impatient people should not claim being victimized. In my state you get a citation for tailgating if the law views it.

In this case it sounds like biker 0.0, driver 0.1. Driver wins in the end. Both fail to get the neutral 1.0 grade.

Biker hopefully learned a lesson. Car driver too...

People need to just calm down....I am a victim of a road rage incident. It happened almost 15 years ago now, when I was in my last semester of grad school in Boston. On Comm ave, in broad daylight. It's a 3 lane road, I needed to do a U-turn a ways down the road, so I was in the middle, because I knew the left lane became a "turn only" lane at one of the side streets. After that light, I put on the turn signal, glanced over my shoulder, and moved left. I immediately heard honking. Apparently the guy who was in that lane didn't see the big turn arrows on the road or the signs on the side saying turn only, and I cut him off. There was no contact between cars, but boy he was angry. Next light, the guy pulls up on my right, gets out of his car, and ran around to my driver side door and tried to open it. Luckily it was locked. But he proceeded to punch out the window and grabbed me by the neck and started screaming at me. He seemed to have a moment of clarity, and suddenly ran back to his car and sped off, but not before I got his plate number. The ADA asked me to come back to Boston to testify, but upon being notified I actually showed up, he plead out. I was told the guy was a former marine with a couple pages of bar fights and domestic violence charges. It wasn't a few months later when I saw the news that someone was shot and killed in a road rage incident....it just seems to be getting worse...

Just wait until the media picks up on the next road rage incident that involves some irate CCP holder that uses a firearm and shoots someone or something up...
Who does not see this row coming?

A bike can stop light years quicker than an automobile, which weighs 4 or more times as much.
I used to get PO'ed at people who I perceived as following too close; finally I realized that if I focused on my own driving, I was better equipped to avoid problems whether they were caused by me or somebody else. This guy obviously was being alert and keeping an adequate distance; otherwise this thread would be about his obituary.

I used to get ticked off by lights of tailgaters in my rear view mirror. Now I just flip on the night mirror and look straight ahead. I figure if they rear end me, they rear end me. They can back off, ride close, pass, whatever, I just don't care anymore.

What are you referring to? This happened yesterday, not 8 months ago.
While he is responding to my comment I believe that he is referring to IT's link in post #13.

As soon as he ran around your car, you should have driven off if possible. As soon as he punched out your window, you should have either backed up or driven forward. Use your car as a self defense weapon. My mom thought me that back in the 60's when there were riots here. Always have an escape route. Once he breaks your window out, you have the right to run him over if necessary to get away. I taught my kids to be aware, never pull up too close to the car in front of you. Always have an escape route or plan at every intersection. Keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings. Use your car as a weapon if needed.

We've had a couple here. Usually, the guy with the carry permit gets charged with brandishing a firearm.

When I can't see their headlight over my trunk anymore, they are too close. ;)

That's when I downshift into low gear so my brake lights don't flash and they poop their pants. Then I get to see what kind of skills they learned in ABATE class.

OK, I don't do that. I'd never do that. But I've thought about doing that, and that makes me a bad person.

Really, though, the old excuse about bikes are more nimble than cars, so cars should just put up with them becasue, well, we should all assume they are skilled riders is kind of ridiculous. And on the flip side, how many bikers get ticked off when cars get too close to them? Almost all.

That wasn't at all what I was trying to say; and we don't know just how closely the biker was following. If he was as close as you suggest, we most likely would be discussing the collision, rather than RR.
If a bike is following too closely he is risking an accident which will hurt him the most; if an auto driver is tailgating, the biker is more apt to end up injured or dead. Which motorist would you rather be in those situations?

I guess it depends on what you call being ticked off. Sometimes it annoys me enough to pull over so they can pass but I don't bother much more than that. I'll pass on being rear ended, I don't need the neck pain or hassle because of someone who thinks getting closer to me will make me or the people in front of me go faster, been there before. Then you get the possibility of a totaled car that you don't get enough money to replace it with something decent. Meh.

Driver needs to be found, and charged with Attempted Murder.

Driver slams into motorcyclist in suspected road rage scuffle - BBC News

Rgds, D.

While the car driver over reacted and should be dealt with, the motorcycle rider caused the road rage situation and should be charged as well. There is no such thing as stopping short in my opinion. What was the motorcyclist thinking he was going to accomplish by pounding on the car?

Having said that, cops and prosecutors often side with motorcyclists and bicyclists even if the motorcyclist or bicyclist caused the incident. So keep your heads, do not react.

Coincidence, saw that movie on the weekend. Disappointing!

This motorcyclist was clearly at fault. The car driver probably freaked out and simply lost control. This one was caused by the motorcyclist and he should be the one charged with attempted murder if anyone is.

Trust me, I had the thought, but unfortunately, we were stopped at a red light on Comm Ave in Boston. Cars in front of me, cars behind me, and his car to the right, T-line to the left. Had I felt "more" threatened or had been assaulted in some significant way, I might of hit the gas anyway....
