"....I've stopped answering calls that I don't recognize. If someone really wants me, leave a message and I can call back if I want"- Hawkeye

We do the same thing. Between the being on the "Do Not Call List" and with "Caller Block" we have eliminated most of the crank calls.

A beautiful late Winter Day here. Mostly sun, breezy with winds gusting ~20mph, and temperature now hovering around freezing.

A busy day taking care of "business" and the required "cultural activity" ending with trying a new for us barbecue joint. Good barbecue is hard to find around here. We'll see.

This modeled storm for March 22 - 24 is slowing down timeframe-wise to more of a 23 - 24 event for the NE. Timing, track, and elevation dependent snow.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

Have a good one everyone.

A rip roaring 44 with NW wind 12-24. I think next weeks cold and storm may well be the last true winter weather here. I sure hope so.
Went and got rear wiper blades for Ellen’s KIA Soul and my Borrego, they told here $20 ea, I paid $8.10 ea. My old connections still paying off.
Went to install mine and the clip end of the arm snapped, just brittle from exposure. I’ve hit with a structural plastic adhesive, getting ready to be disappointed I’m sure. Hope I don’t break hers!

Dad had a box on his home phone line that when he answered the phone it emitted a tone that the phone company uses when line has been disconnected. It took a few months but his spam calls dropped to almost none. I don't know if something like that is available for cells or not...

i have a Google Voice number that I pass out as my contact number. When dialed, both my land line and cell ring. Once a number is blocked, Google plays the "disconnected number" recording if the blocked number ever attempts to call again. I'm not sure what the caller hears once a number is blocked on my Verizon cell phone.

I also once had a lady call me and chew me out for making SPAM calls to her. They were supposedly coming from my landline, so I called AT&T to complain. Not sure what they did, but she stopped calling me and I haven't had anyone else call ever since.:confused2:

But I pretty much don't answer the telephone anymore. I'm not quick enough to get to it most times anyway.

It's hailing outside again...

I only answer calls on either the cell or the land line if I recognize the number or caller ID identifies it as someone I might want to talk to. Other than that, I let voice mail take it.

I still answer my phones almost all the times, I get upset when my wife doesn't answer hers, as I tell her it could be an emergency or important.
I know that there are times when I call if there is no answer I don't leave a message.
Some times I will vent my anger on telemarketers some times I'll just hang up.

We have just started getting health insurance spam since wife went to nasty Dr. wonder if there is a connection. He works for UVA. We are getting a lot of calls lately that we need to get from all over about mom and other things so we answer most calls. Kinda sleepy, think I will go take a nap. Ed

Answering the phone, even if it's hung up immediately, just registers with the caller's software that the called number is active and should remain on the list of numbers to be called again. Far better is to not answer at all, then block the number using the software on your smartphone. You'll never get a call from that number again. But since the SPAMers aren't actually calling from that number, you'll still get more calls from them until enough of their calls go unanswered that they take the number off their lists. It's actually illegal for SPAMers to call cell phone numbers, but there's almost ZERO chance of them getting caught. The only deterrent is not to answer. Let calls from unknown callers go to voicemail so you can return legitimate calls, and whitelist people in your contacts list so CallerID will let you know when it's safe to answer.
I use truecaller app on android.

I use the voice recognize app on the home phone. Answering machine gets them all, if i recognize the voice, i pick up.

Lou, you remind me of me. How you can you hear the fire call if you turn off your pager?....

What really galls me is my 91 year old MIL is in that area code so first I see that and I jump and then I see my old exchange and
once again it's some bozo call.

The heavy rains recently had washed in the furrows I had made a few weeks ago for potatoes so I had
to hand hoe the whole thing. By the end of that long row, I really, really did understand
the old saying of that's a long row to hoe...
One more row done, one more to go.

I have no idea how that row got so crooked at the far end, but I am a firm believer in my newly learned wisdom here
that crooked rows hold more potatoes. I read that right here so you just know it has to be true. ;)

Picked up sticks in the fruit orchard, mowed it quickly with the new big mower, being careful not to wreck my fence on turns
in the corner. Not used to that rear end swinging out behind me. Boy you yank on that wheel while moving and it's a fun house
cup spin, spinning on almost its own length. I learned very quickly to do that more gently after one WHOA moment.
Didn't chew up the lawn though which zero turn usually will if you work at it.

Am pretty worn out, hot shower helped, made a fresh pot of coffee which I'm now doing half decaf to moderate the caffeine because
it was bothering my stomach. Since I started doing half and half, my stomach has felt better.
That first cup of coffee tasted wonderful.

We're just the opposite; my wife is going to be in a hurry to answer either phone anytime it rings. I'll take my time and look to see if it's from someone I want to answer.

G

I've been using SPAM filters on my email accounts for a long time, and can't remember the last time I saw one of those scam letters make it through. The giveaway is always the awkward wording. I think they get it from being former British colonies.:laughing::laughing: (sorry, Eric). :D :drink:

Hey..... I resemble that................Out here (upside-down) we speakada the English real good.:cool2:

I'm sure they will but first it has to grow...I'm all promises to them now.

Managed to brush up against the electric fence today and got a shock bad enough to hurt my elbow.
Bambi and Bunny aren't going to like that on the end of their pink noses for sure.
I did need to disconnect the solar panel from the charger, green lights flashing saying overvoltage to both battery and controller, so I pulled the positive connector apart and all was well. I need to rig up an on off switch but this is 30amp cable and awfully thick to work with. May need a standard electrical box. Considering the 100W output of the panel, a simple knife switch would do. But it's clear the controller that comes with this system can't dissipate excess power and just go in float mode like I thought. System settings default to a sealed battery, which I have.
Charged battery will go three to four days from experience. I'll let it go three days and plug it back in. Will be interesting to see how fast it goes from green to blinking green. Maybe I need a bigger battery...
