Randy, One of the cardiologist in the heart study I'm in in Houston explains how so many of his fist time patients used the same words you used about not having a problem with cholesterol. The blood is tested for Cholesterol levels at FASTING. He explained and had charts of the time frame that it take dietary cholesterol to get out of the blood stream and your blood clears up. It takes about 4-5 hours. So if you eat a meal with cholesterol and 4-5 hours later have another and the another you are keeping your blood loaded with cholesterol. However when you take a blood test after 8-12 hours of fasting the cholesterol level is back down. Go eat a bacon hamburger and test your blood. That's the level your arteries are exposed to daily.

You are absolutely correct on Diabetes, FAT is the problem not sugar.

The best test for diabetes type II is not a blood sugar test, but an insulin test. Diabetes Type II is not a blood sugar problem. It is normal to have high blood sugar after a meal, but insulin enters the cellular receptors and allows the sugar to enter the cell. In diabetes II, saturated fat clogs the insulin receptors so insulin stays in the blood stream and sugar can't enter the cells. Therefore, the best blood test for diabetes is the insulin test not the blood sugar test.

Don- I hope that you keep providing this information.
When I finally really become sick and tired of being sick and tired; I'll start the "process."

I said exactly what you said. In the hour long trip in the back of the ambulance to the hospital you think of a lot of things. But if you are like me you will push it till your ambo ride - I hope you survive. It took me three days after my heart attack before I could admit that I had heart disease. Hey, I was a marathoner, triathlete, and long distance bike rider. But stupid me - the exercise can't stop heart disease, it's the food.

Don- I already had two "911'ers" related to my auto-immune craziness. They were only 1/2 hour runs, and yes I did and still do think about a lot of "things." The homeopathic/acupuncture doctor that I had was really as well educated and informative as all my specialists. He essentially said the same things even when it came down to "receptor sites", etc.; he just spoke in a more "esoteric" fashion than the AMA doctors.

I believe that we are more alike than we are different in what really matters.

Thomas- How much snow did you get with the last storm? I wonder if Phil lost power? I agree with Buppies. The modeled 3/7 - 3/9 storms looks like it will be a decent snow event. AccuWeatherPro is predicting +10". The questions is the rain/snow line's track. 3/12 - 3/14 may be another elevation/temperature event

Is the insulin test the AIC test?
I asked for that and got a 4.5 I think, under the 5.0 danger line. But my sugar had gone up to 116.
I was basically told that was the new normal, but maybe that's a new unhealthy normal

As I understand things (or used to) for a diabetic anything below a A1C of 7.0 is considered good or maybe now, used to be considered "good." I was 6.3 the last time I got tested; which is "high" for me.

No, the AIC test is the glucose test not the insulin test.

The insulin test is called the "fasting insulin level test".

Yikes, 79˚ and we just had a snake dance. My wife stepped 6" from a snake when she looked down and screamed, jumped and ran, I just took off also. When I went back to see the snake it was only a harmless 5' rat snake. But the first snake sighting of the season.

Just picked a beet from the garden, sliced it and putting it in the air fryer.

RNG did you get the
iRobot Roomba 805 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
I see it's on sale at Costco now.

Don- Now I am getting confused (more than normal). I get my A1C tests following a 12 hour fast (including coffee). I can see the differences between the insulin levels and sugar levels, but wouldn't fasting reveal essentially similar data between the two tests? I do not think that I have had a fasting insulin level test in recent memory.

boy I'm envious, my beets look like they aren't going to make it at all.....

ok, looked up Hemoglobin AIC, 5.6 with a range of 4.5-6.0 considered to be normal. Looks like the high number on the range has come down then...
Glucose was 118 with a range of 70-110. This is what my just eating a pizza, even a healthier one..., isn't good for, right? I always thought it was the sugar/splenda in my coffee.
Cholesterol was 144 total, 40 HDL,88 LDL, 80 triglycerides (it really would be nice if they gave better explanations for these...and yes I know I can look them up)

I'm really working on losing that last 20 pounds. That in itself should help a variety of things, particularly being pear shaped.
