Back to the O.P. and topic,

Needed, NO, wanted on a rare occasion or two, YES, particularly when a coyote would happen by while working in the fields or orchard.

As far as concealed carry goes, my wife and I obtained concealed carry permits many years ago when they first were obtainable and renew them when necessary. But we have yet to ever carry a concealed weapon upon us. Never felt the need.
Pretty much the same here on the second part. We carried a few times for good reason I won't get into but haven't in a few years.

Your murder rates and our murder rates have the same name but are quite different.
Our government collects the data. If a gun was used is all that matters. Over 40% of US gun deaths are self inflected. If a cop shoots a bad guy it is still counted. If someone uses a gun in self defense it is counted.
The biggest contributor to those numbers are the big cities with restrictive gun laws.

That figure is closer to 60% I believe. In 2012, 64% of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. were suicides. Many other countries do not list suicides in their gun death data, which skews the results of comparisons.

Sadly. I own an old massey ferguson so I don't think I would pass any kind of mental competency test to be allowed to carry any kind of fire arm on my tractor lest I do harm to the tractor or myself.

do like your sense of humor & wit in these troubled times. well done had an ol' massey TO 35 myself for 28 yrs
maybe we can find some humanity through it all...... lets hope best regards

Roughly out of the 32000 gun deaths in the US every year, around 3% are accidental deaths, around 21000 are suicide, about 9000 are gang related according to the CDC, and between cops and private citizens killing in self defense take out about another 1000. So that final number can get fairly low per capita. The USA lumps all type of gun deaths into one group, and homicides include murder, but also self defense shooting by private citizens and CCL persons, and also people that are killed in cop shooting.

Randy, would you mind post the source for this? Not attacking you, but what data I've seen does not support this. The leading cause of gun violence is domestic I believe.

In general, I'm a defender of the Second Amendment but not to the point where I abandon all fact. I'll leave that for the fudamentalists, fanatics, and terrorists.
Fuddamentalist.

Gun crimes increase in Massachusetts despite tough gun laws - The Boston Globe

In Massachusetts and most other states most suicides are by poisoning, government-speak for drug overdoses. Hanging and cutting veins are also common. Some people are quite determined to end their lives.

In NH and most of the Northeast, Opioid overdoses dwarf all other accidental deaths.

Back to the topic at hand, just purchased a S&W 65-2 revolver. Nice shooter.

Nice. I'm an auto-loader guy but I enjoy firing my friends .38/.357.

I'm weird; my CCW is a Tokarev. Nice and thin, not too heavy and full frame. And high velocity. I can't get good control on those little handle guns.

And Garandman, I think your handle says it all.
