Randy, would you mind post the source for this? Not attacking you, but what data I've seen does not support this. The leading cause of gun violence is domestic I believe.

In general, I'm a defender of the Second Amendment but not to the point where I abandon all fact. I'll leave that for the fudamentalists, fanatics, and terrorists.

Your murder rates and our murder rates have the same name but are quite different. Our government collects the data. If a gun was used is all that matters. Over 40% of US gun deaths are self inflected. If a cop shoots a bad guy it is still counted. If someone uses a gun in self defense it is counted. The biggest contributor to those numbers are the big cities with restrictive gun laws.

Just curious as the majority of our firearm crimes seem to be related to drugs, gangs, ghettos etc., are these present in Canada. Other factors to consider would be population density and demographics.

Here are some comparisons for large US cities versus Toronto, where I live. (Note: only New York and LA are bigger than Toronto.). These date are from a while ago.

Here is one that I found, but I also came across something else that said that 55% of murder victims knew their attacker, and 25% were family members, so that could explain the domestic side that you mention. The truth is all could be correct, and all could be wrong.

Sadly. I own an old massey ferguson so I don't think I would pass any kind of mental competency test to be allowed to carry any kind of fire arm on my tractor lest I do harm to the tractor or myself.

Back to the O.P. and topic,

Sure I have... especially when the rabbits start thumbing their noses at me.

But NEEDING one on my tractor? Nope.

Needed, NO, wanted on a rare occasion or two, YES, particularly when a coyote would happen by while working in the fields or orchard.

As far as concealed carry goes, my wife and I obtained concealed carry permits many years ago when they first were obtainable and renew them when necessary. But we have yet to ever carry a concealed weapon upon us. Never felt the need.

Lets not be cocky nor pretend Canada doesn't have a gun culture

Sure our gun ownership % is a fraction of what it is south of the border but its still among the highest in the western world.

Now ponder this: Norway has a higher firearm per capita rate than Canada and about 1/3 of its murder rate, Austria has the same firearm ownership as Canada and, again, 1/3 of its murder rate.

BTW I do own a gun, a bolt action .22 although I havent fired it in years, and as far as I know most of my rural neighbors also have guns.
