Mossroad, I've done what you did several times with a lot smaller trees. This is a big oak, and I'm scared! :roadblock:

Good! That means your brain is working correctly. :) There's little to no forgiveness with a tree that size if it hits you. Take your time and figure out the safest way for you.

Yep, pulling it out from the bottom from far, far away would be great if you have the means to do it. I've used my Suburban and 100' of cable to do it, but it looked a lot smaller than the one we're discussing today.

You could try and get a cable up high on it and tip it back out the way it went into the snag, too. Lots of ways to approach it. Depends on what equipment you have, your comfort level, skill level, wallet, etc... just don't rush it and think it out real well. And don't do it alone, either.

It’s easier to pull the base out than pull from the top of the tree in my experience. As long as the tree lean angle is pretty low so there’s no chance of it falling back over and no dead branches I’ll pull the base with 40 foot of chain.

A snatch block tied off to another tree could help; then wrap a chain around several times as someone else suggested. I would want enough cable to keep everything at least 2 tree lengths away in case things go south though.

I'd try it with my little tractor & just keep adding snatch blocks Until I had enough to move it.
Might have to rerig a few times to get it completely clear but snatch blocks and a 12v winch can do a LOT.

What makes an iron wood is the fact that is made out of steel. It isn't what it is made out of iron

Yes, but mostly steel, in fact if it's true ironwood you can stick a magnet to it and if you have enough of ironwood trees with magnets on em, you can hook wires on them and power your house.

I milled that pine, there wasn't any blue stain, no bug holes either...

I got some nice lumber out of it.

Those are nice boards !! With all that stain on the end I am surprised it hasn't penetrated at all. Fooled me. I sided my wood shed with stained WP boards.

The snatch block actually needs hooked on that tree if you’re trying to double the pulling power. Then hook one end of the cable to a tree in the direction you’re trying to pull and hook the other end to the tractor.

I knew that there was something which I had missed...
