What makes ironwood called ironwood? Is it hard or is it rot/insect resistant? Or both?
I thought most folks referred to Hornbeam as ironwood (actually separate species)...never heard black locust called that...
I had a couple of WP logs sawn last fall from trees which I cut in 2015. The outside boards are discolored and have wormholes, but they are solid and will make great sheathing when I build my garage this summer.IF it was a fence post, I wouldn't want to have to dig the hole for it! lol
IT is a white pine, maybe I'll mill it tomorrow?? I don't mind stained WP lumber either...

What makes an iron wood is the fact that is made out of steel. It isn't what it is made out of iron
Yeah, you lost me too, Andy. That makes no sense. What’s your problem here?
Its made out of Steele hence the name right??
I milled that pine, there wasn't any blue stain, no bug holes either...I had a couple of WP logs sawn last fall from trees which I cut in 2015. The outside boards are discolored and have wormholes, but they are solid and will make great sheathing when I build my garage this summer.
