I also had one of those, supposed to be the quiet unit. Not so much but I guess quieter than some. I put an hour/rpm meter on it to make sure it stayed at the proper RPM to give the correct frequency. Not an concern with my current inverter gen which I've used a bunch of times with no issues. What pushed me to the rpm meter was my friend's XL4000 burnt out his well pump. I suppose it could have been a coincidence but better safe than sorry.
the well companies here recommend nothing smaller than 7500 watt for well. The inrush is too great on a well.

Unless the power has been off for a while I shut the breaker off to the well when the power goes out and before I start and connect the generator. Flush the toilets later and don’t use water. If power has been out long eneough I shut everything else off and let the 7000W generator power the well up to pressure, flush the toilets etc.let it come back up to pressure. Then shut the well breaker off again and everything else back on.

That is the procedure recommended by our electrician when we installed the sub panel. I could run darn near everything but the well pump with the generator I need to make sure I can power the well. I just can稚 afford and don稚 want to mess w 2 generators. Could have a 3k inverter and fire up the big boy only when I need water.

Interesting. He's a smart guy who doesn't usually miss that sort of thing but we're talking close to 20 years ago now. Personally I like having town water.

My dual fuel generator starts and runs just fine on an upright grill bottle down to about 3 lbs left then it runs but won't carry a load.

Not me. I had a house in the big city in 2015 that was empty while I was selling it. $250 per month for the privileage of being connected to city water with NO usage. By the time they added storm water, metro, base fees, etc. I was paying that much.

Plus there is the added benefit of uranium in your water you may or may not not get in the city. Makes it so you glow in the dark and don’t need a flashlight. Extra benefit

Going sideways on the thread but... city water is for the pigeons. Never in my life have a tasted city water that tastes good or even close to well water. My data points for city water are Seattle/Bellevue Wa, Berkeley/Oakland/SF/LA Ca. and every hotel around the world. My well water is far better tasting and so so much cheaper! Same with the well water from my previous residence. It is now a requirement for me... that and being able to pee outside without getting arrested. :D

Just don’t pee on your generator or you will be glowing :D

How is one’s dog going to know to pee outside unless it is shown to do it? :D

I have no issue running my Jet pump on my 3.7 K Yanmar portable if need be. That and some other stuff.

As a side topic, I think everyone's profile should show whether they can pee outside or not. That would be useful.

You are brave, I would not pee on 3.7K. That might scorch your jet pump :D

I figure you should be able to pee off your front porch and shoot your supper off your back porch...

Happens all the time over here...

The best water I have every tasted is from my well outside Olympia WA... cold, crisp and fresh... it's the Artesians you know! (At least this is what Olympia Beer claimed)

The water in the mountains in Austria was also wonderful... but that changed when municipal water came to be...

My friends from Austria asked how can Americans drink Swimming Pool Water?

One of the biggest reasons for most to have a generator is to power the well pump... unless you have natural 35 psi spring water like my brother has... it was even famous once in case if anyone has ever heard of Alhambra Spring Water... there really is an Alhambra Spring even thought today it is just marketing...

I know you get it. Spring/well water in the PNW is second to none. My dad loved the artisan water... admitting here, Olympia Beer was his source. :D

It's "The Water" after all... still artesian water in downtown Olympia folks line up for...

Getting way off topic... one of my favorite places to dine is the Falls Terrace in Tumwater... just across from the Olympia Brewery complex...

I agree on the deep well water quality!!
I'd like to mention that the ability of your generator to properly start & run your well pump is largely determined by the depth of the well (head pressure).
Mite be a good idea to actually measure the in rush current of your well starting in order to properly size a generator.
That's very important of you want to minimize the generator size.
My Generac xl4000 which is rather weak had no problem powering my well pump because the water level is at ground level and only 20ft down at the most.
When I bought my Yanmar L70 engine I mated it to a 5kw generator head which gives it a bit more surge capability.
It also pulls over 4kw and holds voltage until the engine gets loaded & dragged down due to load.

I have artesian water for our water source here on my place, it shoots out of the ground, into a big cement box and has two over flows. you can see one of the over flows in this pict.,

It's very cold and fantastic tasting...

The pioneer family that settled the valley choose this precise location due to having water...

Old news account from a 100 years ago said the family was most generous during the drought... not turning away any of their neighbors in need when the wells dried up during the record drought...

The ironic thing is my brother has deeded water rights to this little spring... through the years the deeded rights are 2,000 gallon daily minimum... he very much wanted to put in vineyards, etc... spent over 30k drilling two dry holes... had the geologist out, did soundings, historical maps, witcher, etc... the second hole stopped just shy of 700 feet....

It is a sore subject in the house... his wife said do you know what we could have done with 30k????????????

Oh... they have the Honda 2000 inverter generator for use around the ranch... plus two separate metered services...

Good site for solar... really ideal but the solar money was spent on the two dry holes!
