No longer recommended to use an etch primer under an epoxy primer:

Did you know? It is no longer recommended to use an etch primer under an epoxy primer. Residual acid from the etch primer can interfere with the proper curing of the epoxy. This may lead to extended dry times, potential blistering, and even adhesion failure. So next time you are planning to paint bare metal with an epoxy, follow the recommendations on the psheet and use the epoxy directly on the properly cleaned and sanded bare metal substrate.

Copied and pasted off of Southern Polyurethane's website:

NEVER use SPI Epoxy over Acid Etch/Wash Primers or Rust Converters. It will
not work and we strongly suggest if you want to use a rust converter that you use
the rust converters paint system instead of SPI.
Acid treatments should not be used unless you know the proper way to neutralize
them, again call us first to be safe. Acid films can cause an adhesion loss.

In the decades I have been using these products, it is certainly not the first time I saw them change a recommendation that works well.

When you talk to the the engineers involved, and, I did a lot of that, it's always been the same thing, the problems occurred due to improper use. Over application, under application, improper mixing ratio, etc.

If they make the product so it is DTM, direct to metal, (few are), adding another etch, is unnecessary, and could also potentially be causing problems.

I have seen countless primer adhesion issues over the years. So, I will continue to use wash primer, as I have without any issues since the 70's, unless it's not recommended for the specific product I am using, and I have not used it successfully in the past, with those specific products.

Went back to Nashville today, inspected, paid for it and left with the trailer and a big smile on my face. Quite frankly, I was amazed at what this crew did. Sand blasted the whole trailer (top, sides and belly), applied a two part primer that bonds with the metal and then painted the entire trailer the off white (almond) color, also a two part paint. Did the same with the wheels, all six of them. Still have to apply some DOT reflective tape but, this was one heck of a Christmas Special they ran and I am very pleased with the results.

A big  to:

I highly recommend their work based on my experience with them.

Attempted to email you the pics I have. If you don't get them, let me know. Some are of the in progress work and a few of the finished trailer.
But, all were taken in bad lighting, will try to get some decent pics tomorrow in the light of day. Still need to apply that DOT reflective tape and looking at adding some additional LED lights.

Got them... wow!!! Nice and it looks like they did a thorough job on the blasting. That will look absolutely great once you get it properly decal'd and LEDs. Although the bone color was not my first choice I think it works.

Yeah, the almond wasn't my first choice either but, of the options available for the quoted price, it worked me for.
Honestly, I'm amazed at the end results. Glad I hopped on that Christmas Special they offered.

Why does he get pictures and we don't? Hint Hint.

That turn around was quick. I would have guessed they would have it for a month or so.

He first asked and sent me his email address. This is a little embarrassing, I've never figured out how to post pics to any forum. One of those old dog, new tricks things.

Be happy to email them to anyone who wishes to see them. That, I know how to do. If that someone wishes to post those pics, that'd be fine by me.

Yeah, I'm one of those old dogs.
Reference the time required, I have to assume they offered the "Christmas Special" pricing was due to a slow down in business. But, Blastmasters of TN has a contract with some entity that has them blasting and painting CONEXs. They had a bunch of them sitting there either finished or waiting to be taken on. Other than that, I can't say.

Will get some better daylight pics to today. If you would like to see them, send me an email.

It is, indeed, hard to find someone who will do this kind of job. My trailer really needed to be repainted, and I asked my family and my friends if they know a good company that would do it. They recommended me the guys from House Painting Services - PS Painting Service Singapore because they used their services before. But unfortunately, they also didn't do trailer painting services. It was good anyway because I needed half of my house repainted. So I asked them to come and do it. They really are excellent at what they're doing.
