Attaching tool box to ROPS using pre-existing hinge holes?

I thought drilling into ROPS is a BIG no no. Is it ok now?

Drilling, welding, etc. voids the ROPS liability for the manufacturer. Will a small hole weaken the ROPS - no. Is the manufacturer off the hook for liability should you get injured? Absolutely.

Also, if you modify your ROPS, you can become liable if you sell it to someone and they get injured (seems like a stretch but people have sued over dumber things), or if you trade it to a dealership, they will likely reduce the trade value as they will have to install a new OEM ROPS. All purely due to liability.

Gordon Gould - I'm very surprised a dealer drilled into the ROPS... That could open a can of worms for them.

Messicks just did a quick video to discuss this...

Because it would block visibility. Not sure that really qualifies as a GOOD reason though.

Using OEM mounting points on safety systems is always a good idea compared to drilling your own.

It's a very valid point, but on this particular tractor the hinge point is at about elbow height while sitting in the seat, which would place even a large toolbox comfortably outside of viewing range, unless you need to look down at the PTO.

Seems everyone is worried about liability, lawsuits and all that good stuff from drilling a small hole in their ROPS. It'd be interesting to know how many of you religiously wear your seatbelt on the ROPS equipped tractors. We all know that ROPS does not protect an operator if they aren't firmly planted (buckled) in their seat.

Drill baby, drill!
