Grappling fun - A Picture Thread....

I think PISTON started a GREAT thread here... The pics are awesome and the info/stories VERY helpful/entertaining...

I read Piston's original rules (no arguing about which grapple is better)...

I have a new KUBOTA L4701DT and I am trying to decide on the SIZE grapple... The tractor comes with a 72" bucket but I am not sure what size grapple is best (60"/66"/72")... I am leaning towards a 66" (with additional/removable) tines and double lid... You can prolly deduce that I am looking at the EA grapples but I am also looking at/negotiating with others... I will gladly take any OEM recommendations you want to pass along but please let's not argue about it...

I will be using this machine/equipment (taming the land) in New Hampshire/Maine/Tennessee/Florida...

No argument, I don't think you will find a better one, but the only one that I saw with removable tines was their little single lid:

And the 66" would be a good choice. :thumbsup:

Glad you are enjoying this thread that so many people have contributed to! I love seeing the new pics that are regularly posted. (Like this latest 4066r above with some beastly equipment on it!)

What are you going to be using the grapple for?

I personally like my 66” WR Long (But the equivalent model wicked grapple would be just as good, maybe better I️ don’t know) but the reasons i like the extra width is for carrying firewood, multiple awkward shaped items like stumps for instance, and so many other random things I️ never realized i would do with it!

I have a LOT of general farm-type chores, landscaping, and a LOT of 'tree work' to do basically... Brush/stumps/logs/firewood/storm clean-up/sticks/roots/etc... Some rocks... I MAY try some digging in order to remove small trees with their roots mostly intact for transplanting (while dormant)... I will be turning-over large mulch/compost/manure piles and making large amounts of specialized potting/planting soils... Etc... All the usual stuff as well as some 'experimental/proprietary/specialized stock-in-trade' ideas... If things work out I MAY be getting additional tractors/implements for North/Central/South-East locations... I can't afford the time/money for mistakes...

I have looked at the EA grapples and MANY others... EA is a contender...

BTW for you that are burning... IF you are burning ONLY wood, the pot-ash has some value... I use/sell/trade mine...

There is NO substitute for experience and NO GIFT GREATER THAN WISDOM...

I am not the biggest JD fan but this is a VERY nice looking rig...

Apparently some of the grapple OEMs are VERY busy, almost to the point of over-stressing their resources, it seems... Evidently there is a run on these implements (perhaps due to the latest hurricanes/storms)...

It sounds like you just bought a tractor package with a used grapple. Is that correct? Can you post a picture of the grapple?

If I might make a suggestion: You are absolutely correct that there's no substitution for experience. So get some with your grapple! Use it for awhile. You will get a better sense of what type you need, what size you want, and how may lids you become fanatical about. :drink:.

You will destroy the same grapple you can use to grub for palmettos in Florida as to grub for granite in Northern New England.

My point is you my want to keep the grapple you have now and get a SECOND grapple of a different application. Once you know your tasks. :cool2:

..but you know people aren稚 going to ask about the 99 times it works right. We want to know: Why did it fall off?

Because Kioti uses a single lever SSQA on their NX series tractor which had been tripped by a bit of material and I did not see this in the sun while paying most of my attention to not running over my two dogs. my solution to this problem is a field modification that I recommend to everybody with a single lever SSQA lever.

NOT correct... NO USED GRAPPLE... Not sure where YOU got that idea... I hope I was not unclear... No Biggy...

I am going to use this new tractor/EXISTING 6' bucket to get the feel for it before I decide on a new grapple OEM/size... I have a LOT of bucket-work to do...

BTW, I currently use 3 tractors (2 x New Holland 1 x John Deer) of different HP/applications, but NO GRAPPLES, just forks...

YUP, grubbing palmettos (and several other similar infestations, including bamboo) in the semi-tropical environ of Florida is a life-long-past-time since those things grow several inches per day down there...
