How do I test the condenser and the coil? Tractor has a J4 magneto.

I appreciate the answer you gave, however my cub has a j4 magneto with an internal coil that doesn't have the two wire set up you have shown. how do I test my coil?
additionally how do I test for a bad condenser?

Google is or can be your best friend. I found my original link via google. Just google IHC J4 magneto test and go from there.

Have a friend hold the coil wire while you crank it ����

condensers are capacitors. test them with an ohm meter.
short the pigtail to the body to discharge it.
set a meter to Rx1
put leads on the pigtail and body. On an analog meter, the needle will swing from 0 ohms to infinite. On a digital it will go from a low reading, probably auto range a bit, then indicate infinite.
Condensers that read infinite all the time are open, ones that read 0/low and never increase are shorted.
