Living right next to Colorado and traveling to Steamboat often, I have not seen a sky is falling scenario because of Marijuana like predicted. Quite the opposite really. The economy is booming and if there is a downside to it, the state is attracting a lot of people. Traffic is way worse than it use to be, but negative societal affects are minimal.

I feel it could be legalized nationwide and nobody would be non the wiser. I bet the alcohol industry would hate to see that happen, but DUI's would go down.

Here's the difference finally explained. Much of the alcohol consumed daily is beer and wine, served in restaurants and grocery stores, and without drinking to excess. A vast majority of those who have a drink or two during dinner or even lunch don't consume those drinks with the intent of getting "a buzz on", they simply enjoy how those drinks compliment the food and the social setting. However when one uses drugs the whole intent is to"get a buzz on", there lies the problem and the difference, alcohol is a beverage and 99.9% is consumed as such, pot is a drug and taken to get a high and should never be compared to adult beverages. Claiming thy are the same is an excuse to"get high" and addicted to "getting a buzz on" with ever increasing dangerous drugs.

You have obviously never smoked a joint and then went grocery shopping........ "You gotta buy two of everything because you know you're gonna eat one before you get home!!!!"

Someone else mentioned DUI earlier. Not arguing. Just clarifying. DUI stands for "Driving Under the Influence". It has nothing to do with alcohol. :)

I have worked numerous dui checkpoints and have witnessed those under the influence of alcohol as well as Marijuana, and sometimes both. The effects are mind altering and their thought process is affected whether it be alcohol or Marijuana. I don't want my family on the road with either one of them behind the wheel. Say what you want but Marijuana is a gateway drug, 99% of the drug addicts will tell you they started by using Marijuana.

DUI and DWI isn't just alcohol related. Weed, drugs ,alcohol. Don't matter.

Smoked some pot in 1969 and tried it again in 1976. Wasn't impressed enough to continue. Drank some in the late 60s to mid 70s and found out I really liked whiskey or gin sours. Decided I didn't want to like it that much and haven't drank since.

I don't begrudge anyone the right to do either. I just chose early on, not to.

I agree. I also think the same laws should apply to using one's Cell Phone while driving. Does your family do that?

Trying cannabis oil to stave off diabetes.

How's that working out?
Med. pot has been legal here for a while and I keep running into people that are not pot smokers but have a family member with various conditions that they absolutely see improvement or help from m/m. One guy has a sister that had a mastectomy and another one with a son with pretty bad "ADD". There are other's that I have run into, one a corporate chauffeur (CDL) that drives lobbyists around the DC capitol. He's a banjo picker and his fingers........ He was told about some cream, got some and paid for his own drug test being a CDL driver and he passed it. His only effect is his fingers don't hurt anymore and he does not get "high" using it. I've got my own list of complaints, mostly my knees but do not want an opiate or any other chemical drug. Medical pot has me very interested.

Amen, texting is the worst. It should be treated exactly like a DWI imho.

I believe the most recent term is "Driving While Impaired", and includes all drugs, alcohol cell phone use and even eating to the distraction of the responsibilities of driving a motor vehicle.

It is interesting that "drunkenness" will get you a DWI even if the vehicle is parked, not running and you in the back seat sleeping, With the keys accessible.

If you find yourself impaired and choose to pull over rather than chance a bad outcome. Hide the keys in the bushes! Then crawl in for the needed recovery ;-)

I am very rural. I don't drive in congested traffic. I'm not sure how many "DUI" drivers I might meet on the road in a week. I meet dozens using their phones. Doesn't bother me too much until the car coming at me is driven by a person looking at their cell phone rather than at me.

Statistics probably support DUI as the major cause of distracted driving accidents. But I think that's only because LEO doesn't check the driver's cell phone usage when investigating the accident. :(

If you are sure that none of your family uses their phone when driving you are in a very elite group. :)

Almost seems like medical marijuana is the next best thing since Bayer Aspirin.

Yep, it's that way here in Missouri as well. Isn't that silly.

All I can do is tell them what the law is and the dangers of using it. My wife has had someone almost swerved into her that was on their phone, so I think that was a eye opener for her. My kids haven't started driving yet😯, but it will not be long. I have told them the dangers and consequences of their actions, and can only hope that they will heed my advice.

Smoked my share in my younger years as well as an occasional over the top evening with alcohol. Didn't deal real well with hangovers, not a good way to spend the first half of the day after. Weed was pleasant but inbound that I really didn't get very much accomplished when enjoying it.
Haven't used much weed for the last twenty five years or so, and when I have participated I found that the stuff available now absolutely kicks my butt. Diabetes keeps my alcohol use down to a couple of beers a week at most.
Coffee now that's a different story, yes I am physically addicted to the stuff and it takes several days to get rid of the headache if I stop. But I do enjoy my coffee:hyper:
