Sounds like it went well, Drew. Good deal.

Reminds me of another story ... Wife decided she didn't feel like cooking Saturday evening, and asked me to order from one of our favorite restaurants a couple towns south of us. I did, and left to go pick it up. As I got almost there, she sent me a photo of her hand and accompanying text saying, "I think I'm going to need stitches." There was a large tear in the skin around the base of her thumb. I called her and she told me she was stepping over the 3' tall pressure-fit gate we use to keep the foster dog out in the sunroom, lost her balance, and went tumbling across the floor. She apparently hit her hand on something, probably one of the metal fittings on the gate, and tore it open pretty good. She drove herself to the hospital in Highland (while I was still 10 mile away in the other direction), where she received 5 stitches to close the wound.

That pressure-fit gate was promptly replaced with a metal swing gate when I got home.

On a brighter note, the bluegill sammich was still good even at near room temperature an hour and a half later.

Proof Mode, which will circulate air at 100-degree Fahrenheit to perfectly proof dough so you can make excellent homemade bread.

aahhh, bread making. The right temp to make dough rise
Learn something every day

I wonder if the metric ovens show 37.7778 Centigrade?

And, good luck with your repairs. There is little in this life as aggravating as tooth pain.

Good evening guys, Got the box trailer loaded and some junk on the truck out of the garage and then Hauled the 12 in band saw, wood lathe and air compressor to the shop behind the lawn tractor. Doesn't sound like much but am tired. Have a good bit more to do to get the car in there but I am closer than I was.

Drew I am glad you are done with that, Hope it feels better very soon. Praying.

Have a great night. Ed

Drew, I really don't use collards just kale, but I suppose you could just cut it up and add it to a spicy vegetable soup. I used to work in a grocery store in South Houston (Pyburns, Kyle) and collard greens or mustard greens with hog jowls were very popular.

Gary Pyburn was a friend and recently passed away.

PJ, best wishes for wife’s fast recovery.
Like your reports from Clinton County. Visited our friends in Breese every year on our way home from the southwest.

Small world, but I wouldn't want to have to paint it. Remember the old Gulf/United salt company and race track just a bit south of Pyburns off of old 288?

Drew, get well.
Mrs PJS too.

Forgot to mention in earlier post (or maybe I did and forgot already)... my daughter took me to Garth Brooks concern Friday night... I am not a big fan of concerts, but have to say, Garth and crew put on a good show. High energy, audience participation, entertainment..

Good evening all. 50F for the start, overcast, calm wind. Overcast remained all day, wind stayed light and high temp of 63F. Choir practice this morning, bike ride, and nap are all I accomplished today.

Wow, sorry to hear that. He was the owner and for the 7-8 years that I worked in his store, through high school and college and even as a part time after I got another job, during the 70s. He had a plane and went on hunting trips and usually brought back a animal and put it in the store freezer. He really held the store together. I started out as a sacker then stocker, then asst mgr. He gave me a few raised and I thought I was making a lot when my hourly wages were $1.40. I was able to buy a motorcycle to drive to work, many trips down Anderson Road. I got my little brother a job there in the meat market and then the store got robbed when he was working and he got a gun pointed at him. My brother quit shortly after.

Gary shot several people breaking into his store on Almeda Road and one of them as the guy was crawling out of a window trying to get away. He was an interesting man to talk to.

I do remember the store being robbed at least 3 times when I was there, but never when I was working. I remember him having a gun. You did not need a license back then. It seemed the thief's favorite item were cases of cigarettes.

I had to "order the store" many times and still remember the size of all the cans. Back then we had to stamp the price on each item in ink. Then when the price went up we had a little bottle of squeeze alcohol and a rag to wipe off the the old price and stamp on the new price. The trickiest part was cutting open boxes of cereal without cutting the individual boxes inside - they were boxed tightly and you had to hold your finger just right to control the depth of the cut.

We worked by the bell system - One ring they needed me to sack, two rings they needed me to be a back-up checker. If we carried out the groceries the total average tip for a basket full of paper grocery bags was 25 cents (a basket not per bag).

The courtesy booth on Almeda had 2 inch glass on the teller cage.

They sold boudin in the meat Dept. And cashed many payroll checks.

Also a convenience store next door that sold plate lunches and lots of beer.

I didn't realize it, but google shows it to still be there, and other locations too. I don't remember the awning on the front of the store, and I don't remember it being brick.

Google Maps

I would've quit too if I were your brother.

It was brick as the pic shows.
