What's the best single "AA" pocket torch, long beam while folk are think flashlights

While you folks are thinking flashlights in another thread ( I didn't want to hijack it), I carry a pocket torch and use all the time, especially looking at tractor or mechanical things. I need a long beam, SINGLE AA alkaline torch, (prefer single mode, ON/OFF) it needs to last at least 1 hour, prefer 2. It must not turn on in your pocket, so needs a well shrouded switch. I don't want a $2 thing that will fall apart. If you have come across a good one, please let me know. I don't want a rechargeable battery, when the AA dies I will throw a new one in. I have other rechargable torches and equipment, but this one needs to be standard single AA alkaline.

I live with flashlights. Have a BIG rechargeable Makita - but that's not what you are looking for. Sooo.... I shall tell you of my other smaller one. Its a Nebo, Redline AG. Its LED, rechargeable, about 9" long and big around as a broom stick. Excellent light, will throw a useable beam across my little lake and illuminate the features on the rock cliffs that are 900' away. Good for "eyeballing" coyotes. I got the one I have at local hardware store for $48. They are also available on line. Be advised - last time I checked on line - the model I have was the ONLY rechargeable one - - the others, and there were several, all use disposable batteries. I definitely recommend this light.

I have 2 of these. A great pocket flashlight, much better than a Mag. 3 intensities, long battery life, glass lens and a positive click switch. Highly recommended.

Not a single "A" battery but 3 AAAA penlight single LED "Streamlight Stylus". Very close to the size of a pen. Carry it everyday and very happy with them. Bought another for a spare even . $15 ish at our electric supply house or online. Other mechanics are impressed with it too. Long battery life, very bright, and durable.
Upgraded to these after years of a 2 AA style and these are 10X better.

Not a single "A" battery but 3 AAAA penlight single LED "Streamlight Stylus". Very close to the size of a pen. Carry it everyday and very happy with them. Bought another for a spare even . $15 ish at our electric supply house or online. Other mechanics are impressed with it too. Long battery life, very bright, and durable.
Upgraded to these after years of a 2 AA style and these are 10X better.

I don't think you'll find a better brand than Streamlight. I have a Streamlight Strion model that I've used daily for over 2 years. They're used by many police departments, replacing the old 4-cell Mag Lights. The original rechargeable battery in the Streamlight is still going strong. I think you've convinced me to try on of those penlight models. Thanks!

The RayOVAC Value bright has been a good one for me. They are cheep at $2.50 but they can last a year before switch gets wanky. I carry one in my shirt pocket every day. I buy a few at a time. They last 5 hours per battery.

I do with I could find one a bit my beefy=$$, but then I would just loose it!

the fenix l1d is a single double A flashlight, but is strongly recommended to use rechargeable. i use eneloops and use the l2d, which is 2 AA flashlight. i love them own 3 water proof,shock proof, great run times!

I have worn two of these out. They could be of better quality I guess but I used them ALOT, carried one everyday as it clipped onto the pocket well. Great battery life, great beam, lightweight, single AA battery. I literally used them hunting, working on stuff you name it. What broke was a little capacitor that came off of a chipped board behind the light, but I probably got 2 years out of each of them. However I went to a compact two AA LED Mini-Maglite, the one I listed above had a longer battery life and was smaller but its hard to beat a Maglite. It isn't anything fancy, flashy, or ritzy but it works.

It's hard to beat a Maglite. I still have several models from 35 years ago, but they don't get used much since they are old school tech. I also have some Maglite LED models that are maybe 5 - 10 years old? They are 10 times better than the originals as far as light quality, lumens, pattern, distance, etc. But now Maglite has much more advanced LED options which are, in my opinion, 10 times better yet.

Got a whole box of flashlights and hand lanterns including the custom built Teledyne Big Beam in the Dodge Power wagon that'll recharge when I remember to plug it into the cigar lighter. Got a genuine Chinee made LED flashlight that takes a rechargeable AA battery always in my pants pocket. It has a glass lens that zooms from distance to close up and with a fresh battery can reach out 300 feet. Says Cree on one side and UltraFire on the other. Been dropped more times than I can count and keeps working. I've had this one a couple years, and the lens is kind of scratched up but still works fine. Last year for Christmas I bought a dozwn and gave em out to friends. Had to buy another dozen when people found out (removed) was givin out flashlights and told me they was my friends. Last bunch were less than 4 bucks a piece on ebay shipped right to my mailbox from China.

Might try one of these AAAA penlights. Only downside I see is battery cost looks significantly higher, almost double that of AAA.
