When you talk landscape rake, things get even more confusing.
I am fortunate enough to have an old style Harley, Pro 8 rake. It has two rollers and S tines which make it a different animal (and far superior) from the current Harley rakes.
There is a wonderful attachment called a "Preperator" (sp?) that is SS mounted, and does what a Harley rake generally does, BUT has a hopper that catches the stones and debris.

The only bad thing, is the dam windrows. How to deal with them? I'm having a special screening bucket built to handle/separate that material.

I'm actually just leaving to pick up a new 4", 12" stroke CAT II top link cylinder as the lighter one I was using was not up to the task. I have the rake on a quick attach frame making transition between rake and dump trailer MUCH faster.

No difference in Harley Rake and Soil Conditioner. I had a soil conditioner made by Bobcat on the front of my skid steer.

Before and after pics using Harley rake. You can't stick a spade in the ground here anywhere on account of rocks. Area was rolled.

So Industrial Toys, what in your opinion makes this earlier style better? Here's what I see. Old style has bars on the bottom drum vs new style with teeth. Bars wouldn't be quite as aggressive as teeth but teeth don't need the s-tines to loosen up the soil.
What's the purpose of the second drum?
I have a drum and I 'd like to build myself a Harley rake. I just want to use it to level off my lawn. I'm tired of bouncing around while mowing. Of course I'm sure I'll find other uses for it too.

The S tines do a remarkable job of scratching at hard packed material. They also claw up stones.
You can adjust the spacing between the two rollers to determine how course a material comes out the back and the rest gets pushed forward or windrowed if angled.
In a way, I guess anything you spin will do basically the same thing with minor variations. Just like, a hundred different things can be used as a drag.
I'm guessing, my old rake was the culmination of years of R&D. In the end, it was just too expensive to manufacture and was scaled back in design.
