B2650HST shuts off when I reverse...

B2650, bought new almost 3 years ago, 275 hours, all maintenance done according to specs. I was mowing and attempted to back up when it simply died. Would not even turn over with the key. I could jump the solenoid to turn it over but wouldn't fire. Finally figured it was the 5amp opc/panel fuse blown. Started right up... I can use the fel or mow all day but the instant I try to back up, it blows the fuse... pto is disengaged, seat safety switch duct taped down, I don't know where to go from here. I have searched this forum for answers but see nothing addressing this particular problem. The dealer says to bring it in, I would rather not spend the high dollars if it is something I can fix. Thanks in advance for help

Perhaps some linkage is rubbing when it goes in reverse?

My guess would be if the fuse keeps blowing that the hst switch is shorting when in reverse.
I can't remeber if that model uses a single switch that activates in either direction or seperate external switches but u believe it uses a single switch assembly with dual contacts for Fwd and Rev.

Is there any way to check the switch with it on the tractor? Maybe use a jumper?

The B2650 safety switch is a single pole. Getting under the tractor and watching the action when the pedal was moved from forward to reverse, the action appeared to be the same. Both directions moved the switch identically. I figured it probably wasn't the switch but decided to rig a jumper, started the engine and went forward. No problem, then reverse... it backed up!! I don't understand with that switch having the same movement fore and aft, but bypassing it had the results!
Thanks for the help. Now I can clean up this mess from Irma...
