Great pics!! I have the almost twin to yours LS 4155HC with R4's and an identical tooth bar. Almost 500 hrs and its doing great!

Look under your tractor at all the hoses and filters ready to get hit or pulled off by stuff you run over brush hogging. You may want to consider adding a skid plate. I made one and put on mine. Its pretty easy to do.

Good luck with your tractor and keep the pic's coming!!

Very interested in a skid plate I have been meaning to start a thread about them. Looking for ideas and pictures of how ya did it

Thanks

Here ya go! 1/4" steel, 30"x42". Bolt holes are 1" inboard on the long side and 2" inboard on the short side. I was going to use 6 bolts but with the 4 bolts tight the plate is very rigid.

For paint I cleaned the mill scale, scuffed it and used red oxide primer. I used some wal-mart roll on bedliner over the red oxide primer. The bedliner has held up great!

Be sure and mark up and forward so its easier to re attach.

Looks good how did you mount it ? Did you drill the frame

time to get a piece of steel! I was playing in the woods with my XR4145H and had some brush banging around. I was cautious but still didn't like it. this is on the top of the to do list.. thanks for the dimensions. do you have a picture of the skid plate installed ? I also need to add the steel mesh in the brush guard.

thanks

I just painted up my steel for my skit plate just like Cataclysm's ... do you think I will be ok if I mount it to the bottom of the loader frame for easier 1 person installation and removal or do you think the 2 inches of clearance that you loose can be an issue? I also welded on my expanded steel in the brush guard and painted whole brush guard and expanded steel black. I think it looks better black! while I was doing this stuff today I pumped in about 45 gallons of winter mix washer fluid into each rear tire that I purchased in bulk from a local company that makes it.. way less than beat juice. cost me 250.00 for 2 55 gallon drums along with hoses and stuff needed to do it. overall it was a good enjoyable day of playing in the garage with the tractor!tractor 3.jpgtractor 1.jpgtractor 2.jpg

Wow that brush guard does look better in black! Might have to do that when I put my mesh in. I love the tire size on the 4xxx series tractors compared to mine. Just couldn't justify something that size at the moment.

Interesting that you mention that. I use a floor jack and block of wood to get my plate (its pretty heavy) on top of the frame so I'm not wrestling it while getting the bolts in. So for me its easier to put it on top. If its easier for you to put it on bottom I see no problem with that. It certainly won't hurt anything and I doubt you will miss the 2" of clearance.

Great looking brush guard by the way. I still need to get expanded metal in mine. I just hate welding on that pretty paint. I will probably hate it more when I have to buy a new front grille though!

Thanks for sharing the pic's!!

I do a lot of loader work in yards, those big tires really work well to minimize the damage even with a full bucket and are part of the reason I bought this particular tractor!!

Because of the weight issue, what do you think of using aluminum plate instead......for someone that isn't brush hogging and low risk of damaging the undercarriage? I've been thinking about this since you posted the wonderful pictures and dimensions. It's just me working on my equipment.... with my marginal shoulders and lots of arthritis. I've been looking at some 0.375" thick T6 plate. While it's pretty soft / malleable.......it would provide a level of protection. I realize there is a significant cost difference in materials......but if I have to remove and re-install with any frequency....a lighter weight solution would be very helpful.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the idea of aluminum plate since you've engineered a solution out of steel?

I was just thinking that if its on the bottom it leaves some room since I only had 1/8" steel available to use. this way it can bend up some without hitting anything. also, to remove or install just set in on jack and apply a bit of pressure to plate and frame so it stays in place while installing the bolts. then when its time to remove for service put jack under, remoe bolts and lover jack. My next project now is to fasten the tow hooks to the frame just behind where the brush guard mounts. I see there are holes on each side. Where are you guys hooking the rear of the tractor to your chains while towing? I hooked to the loader 2"x2" tube steel at the rear yesterday.

Aluminum would definitely help and keep limbs and branches from snagging stuff.

Maybe I should weigh the plate then make a video of the uninstall/reinstall. Its pretty easy with the jack and a 4x4 chunk of wood. You do start from the starboard side and slide the plate up onto the port side first. Then slide the plate a little further port until you can get the starboard side up onto the top of the sub frame with just a few pumps of the jack. A couple wiggles with a small bar and it lines right up.
