Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

A relative bought a solar power panel and speaks highly of it.

1 Watt Solar Panel Kit

He uses it at a small building on the farm that's remote so guys can see early or late in the day. I know nothing other than it's mounted on the roof and he's happy with it.

Actually, HF is not a great place to buy solar. You can do a lot better on eBay or even Amazon. Solar Blvd is also a good source.

There's a comment over on Welding Web saying the HF clerks know about the coming Vulcan inverter welder models.

New "Vulcan" welder line? - Page 2

And I was surprised to find the HF 12 volt sump pump that I run suspended in my orchard-watering trailer is no longer available. HF's pumps are now some house brand and don't include a boat sump pump. No big loss, I see similar on Ebay for $30 shipped. But I'm surprised HF would abandon that specialty product.

I'm still in the initial 3hr break-in period. Using the 6000' - 8000' main jet.

So far their $400 6.5 HP (212cc) Chipper Shredder seems to be working well.

I bought it instead of renting a 40yd dumpster for $350.

I've since found that I can dump branches at my local landscape supply for $6/yd. If I'd known that at the time, I wouldn't have purchased the chipper.

I'll eventually try and sell the chipper on Craigslist for $300.

Yesterday, I got every hose clamp I had and threw them out. I tried 10 and all stripped out before any real tension was applied. For me, I would rather have nothing than those clamps.

I agree with what you said, not too good.

Heard at a local racetrack: "Harbor Freight: tools that last a lunchtime."

We had one at work and had no problems with it, but didn't use it much.

At the other office we used it a lot, and bought the Craftsman Pro

Welcome to Sears.com - Sears

But much more expensive - $550.

Well it's in the shop now. Hardest part of the experience was finding it, after 3 phone call to the local HF they denied having it in the store. I had to drop SWMBO at the dentist across the street, so I called before we left - not in stock. Show up in the store a little later, "0h, there's one left".

I can't personally confirm it is a Honda clone, but I've read several articles that suggest they used to be identical Honda clones.

I've read the current ones have been "tweaked" slightly so not all parts interchange to avoid legal issues.

I read through the manual, it appears the engine is a clone of the Honda GX series, yes ? no ?

re chainsaw inertia - I discovered my little Ryobi 18 volt 10 inch saw was an adequate replacement for a 2-cycle saw here. 99% of its use is clearing fallen orchard trees that fell because they were rotten, punky, with only a veneer of live wood sustaining them. Plenty of power for that. An advantage I hadn't considered is the much lesser inertia overrun so it is safer to operate. Here's a photo I posted previously of the other 1% of its use where it is working at capacity bucking Eucalyptus which it does adequately. No longer owning anything 2-stroke has made my life simpler, and in this case safer.

A couple years ago us kids got together and bought the step father a Husqvarna cordless 40v chainsaw. Being in his mid 80s we figured he didn't need to be dealing with mixing up gas. We also figured it would slow him down some but when they had work done to their garage and a 20" red maple needed to be taken down and chunked up he had no problems doing all of it with it. I think with a couple spare batteries he would of been able to do the whole tree non-stop.
