Randy, thought about opening a marina

It crossed my mind when I looked out earlier and it's deeper than last night.:D

Cloudy and comfortable this morning, not a bad day for a swim around the property.
Got to drive over to Lewis, DE to pick up a blade and weights I bought, didn't need them but they were cheap, what can I say?
I still use glyphosate, but y'all scared me, I might stop.
Have a good day folks!

Good morning all, 65 going to 80 today. Got a little rain last night, just north of us it poured. Easy day today, I hope. Shrubbery is mulched with gravel and if I don't spray it grows fast. Like to know the way to not have to use Roundup. Have tried vinegar and a big propane torch, nether worked.

Have a great day. Ed

I haven't tried backing into the bamboo...
The bamboo is pretty tall...as tall as the tractor or more. I've been using the bucket to knock it down before the mower hits it. Most of the stalks are pulverized...some just knocked down.
I got started too late in the season to really clear this out...next year, I'll start much earlier (March or April).

I don't back into any brush. I've been raising the mower, backing up and mowing as I drive out. The full width roller would probably just knock the brush down and I wouldn't get as good a cut.

I have been told that if you spray a strong solution of Roundup on the freshly cut bamboo, that it can have a decent effect. Said you have to apply it immediately, like mount a spray boom on your shredder. It might take multiple applications too.

Ed, thanks for the buckwheat tip. My daughter is anxious to plant some stuff. I might plant a winter cover crop though.

Waiting for wifey to make coffee. I feel sore from wrestling with the 5420's front flat. Still have to take it in. Just getting it off was a bear. The bolts laughed at my 1/2" impact, so out came the 20lb gorilla 3/4" impact. Broke 'em free no problems. Then lifting the tire and rim into the back of the Yukon was awkward...I am not the bull in the china shop anymore. It probably weighs over a hundred pounds just guessing.

Roy, waiting to hear a report on your new pistola.

67 right now...upper 70's as the high.
Primary task today is to do some weed trimming...that's the first order of business.
After that, maybe some field mowing, as I'd post yesterday evening.

I think I wrote I did pick up that Ruger SR9C yesterday. I took a couple pics this morning and e-mailed them to me...but it's taking a long time to receive the pics. I'll post them later, along with some comments

69 outside this AM. Rain moved through last night and Friday night in a big time fashion. Airport trip on Friday was delayed two hours due to weather so that set my schedule moving people around back into the wee AM hours. Now recovering, I am waiting for the grass to dry out, to start mowing. That and the pool looks a nice shade of green that needs a nice shock treatment. Good thing with the rain, the weeds pop up out of the ground with ease.

No humidity today, so it will be a reclaim yard day after I say hello to god.

75 degrees and cloudy here right now. We had a light rain off and on last night and this morning I poured about 1.05" of rain out of the gauge. It's still cloudy with the NWS saying we have a 50% chance of more rain today. I'm just happy with what we've already gotten, but I sure wouldn't mind getting a little more.

The Texas Rangers had a 20 minute rain delay, or interruption. in their game last night, but then finished to beat the Houston Astros.

63.2F and clear, heading up to a high of 80F.

Got the engine on the 'bota washed off and got it moved up to the barn yesterday ... so that will be the first thing on the list this morning.

After that it was cleaning up the leftover small sticks from the big pile of dead branches that came down off the dying maple. Followed that up with raking the leaves off one side of the screened topsoil, so I can start digging into that once I'm done with the service of, and repairs to, the Kubota.

Then mowed the entire lawn on the east, west, and south sides of the house. Finished up with more raking and clean up of leaves on the south side of the polebarn, followed by cleaning the leaves and sticks off the slope on the north side of polebarn ... which is where the screened topsoil will be getting laid down.

Looks like toppop and I have swapped situations from a few weeks ago ... we're now really hurting for a good rain. Noticed that it's so dry that the ground is starting to crack in some spots ... mainly where there are trees and/or lots of sun exposure.

Glad that those that needed rain are getting it though.

The Perseid meteor shower will be at peak tonight.
Dang ... wish I had been paying closer attention ... it was clear as a bell last night ... :(

The low this morning was 47*, yesterday high was 83*. The forecast is the same for the next few days, chance of showers at 20%. The wind might pick up to 15-20 mph today.

Helped the neighbor that has the fire woods processor cut 4 cords of wood. Had a few little problems one chain saw wouldn't run and he forgot to bring extra gas for the processor. He had to make a couple trips off the hill. We got it done in about 5 1/2 hours. Should have taken about 4 1/2 hours.

Need to get some willow poles cut for the grand kids. They will be here some time today.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Good Morning!!!! 76F @ 8:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High near 95F. Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.

Four cords in four and a half hours? Wow! A few years back it took me all summer to put up ten cords. That must be a heck of a machine, CWB!

Spent a good amount of time dusting off the layout for the someday shop I hope to build. At this point there's really nothing standing in the way except me deciding the building dimensions, and that's dependent on what goes inside of it, especially the little office/granny quarters with the kitchen and bathroom, all ADA compliant. That took some studying as well. I figure if I work on it a little each day it'll soak in and in a while I'll be comfortable enough with it to proceed, knowing it'll work for what I want it to do.

The chile stew turned out great: Nice smoky flavor from the roasted chile with good flavor from the coriander and thyme. Just a bit on the hot side, though, so it got a dose of parmesan cheese on top to tame it down. Only had three small potatoes on hand, so also added 3/4 cup of rice, which soaked up a lot of the juice. Half a bottle of Guinness loosened things back up and also added to the flavor.

Also got most of an order from Duluth Trading Company packaged back up for a return. The pants were too tight, the socks were too hot, the ballroom briefs didn't have any, and the velcro restorer didn't. I did like the lightweight shorts with the cargo pockets, though, and the lightweight shirts with the button down collars. But even the shirt sizing was off a little, they were on the loose side. Unlike Amazon Prime, DTC charges for returns, but I guess that's the cost of an education. Don't think I'll be ordering from them again.

Don't have much on the agenda for today, maybe fool around with the old motorcycle a bit, and the floor plan, and a nice BBQ for dinner.

Hope everyone enjoys the time off!

61 this morning and headed to 85 today. Already 80.

Tilled the garden up this spring, planted corn, and it set in raining and was 3 weeks before I could work it again. Not wanting to go get the tiller again. It's my grandfathers and it's 40 minutes one way for 15 minutes of use. I just set my walk behind tiller in and worked up strips. Then sprayed the entire thing with roundup. Came back and put Dual over the crops that I could. Only weeds are morning glory and a few Pigweeds. But Dual is a grass herbicide and the weeds left in garden are broadleafs. Corn is over grown with everything including crabgrass. I need to weed the corn before the pigweed goes to seed.

When atrazine was first introduced, the salesmen were told to drink it. To prove to the farmers how safe it was. Talk about exposure, not to mention the taste of that milky, chaulky, clayey substance.

Take care of birds and check cows. If wind stays down I might try to spray some more 2,4-d on pastures.

69°F and .08 inches rain.
Not a productive day on my project yesterday. Wife and I made 2nd trip to town for drawing to win Toyota Tacoma at local lumber store. She was convinced her one entry was the winner. Of course so we're the thousands of other folks. Had to be present to win. So crowded, I dropped her off and parked more than half mile away and waited. Only teased her lightly about not winning. After all, someone did.

Treated her and my self to a Baskin Robbins to soothe the soul before returning home.

Brother in law invited over for dinner, stuffed cabbage. Should have my shelves assembled, sanded, stained by then.

Be safe
Have a great day

Found out that new building going up next to Menard's. Will be a Duluth Trading Company store. Being we will be staying in the cold north this winter. I may need some new winter wear.

Just ran across this info on fat/oils and skin cancer, interesting since a lot of us are in the sun a lot and a lot of us have had legions cut or burned off.

The combination of oil/fat and sun increases your incidence of skin cancer 10 times.

"Animal experiments reported as early as 1939 provided the first clues about the influence of our diet on the risk of skin damage from sunlight.9 Researchers discovered a diet high in fat increased the numbers of ultraviolet (UV) radiation-induced skin cancers in mice. In the 1980s, studies showed that switching from a high-fat to a low-fat diet immediately after the ultraviolet light exposure reversed the cancer-promoting effects of the high-fat diet.9 These findings suggested that changing a personç—´ diet, even after exposure to UV light, might prevent future skin cancers, and possibly reverse the effects of the sunç—´ damage.

This may surprise you, but even more than animal (saturated) fat, polyunsaturated oils derived from vegetables (like corn and safflower oils) are found to be the strongest promoters of skin cancers in people and experimental animals, of any foodstuffs that we eat.10 This danger only applies to free oils, like those found in a bottle. Please understand that when the oil is still in its natural state, as part of the components of the fruit or vegetable, it is perfectly safe, and as you know, health-promoting.

The most serious warning about the sun comes from the fear of developing the very deadly skin cancer, melanoma. This fear is unfounded. Research clearly shows that sun exposure has little to do with the cause of this kind of cancer in fact, there is good evidence that sunshine can help prevent this vicious cancer, and can even slow its growth doubling a patientç—´ chances of surviving.11,12 Melanoma is believed to be due to a diet high in fat, especially vegetable oils, and low in fruit and vegetables.13

Even if you have skin damage, it is not too late to change your eating habits. An experiment published in 1994 in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that people with actinic keratosis (precancerous, dry, scaly, rough-textured patches) were able to reduce the chances of development of new actinic (sun damage) lesions, 3 to 6-fold, by switching from a high fat (38% of calories) to a relatively low-fat (21% of calories) diet this diet was also more plentiful in plant foods.14 Furthermore, during the last 8 months of the study the incidence of skin cancers was 10 times less in the low-fat group than the high fat dieters.15

Finally got pictures of the SR9C...this compact is a good companion to the full sized SR9 I bought a month or two back...

This is the standard configuration
SR9C-r004.jpg
A 10 round magazine with a pinky extension

But, if you want to carry more rounds
SR9C-r005.jpg
This is with the SR9 17 round magazine. The filler piece extending the grip is really nice.

The gun comes with one 10 round mag and one 17 round mag...what you see in the pictures is what you get (plus a flat mag cap to replace the pinky extension) and a mag loader (aids in getting those last few rounds in a magazine).

Both grips feel really good in the hand. The safety (ambidextrous), magazine release (also ambidextrous), slide release are placed the same as the full size SR9. The trigger feels a bit stiffer (then the SR9), but I'll get used to that.

This won't replace my primary carry (Kahr CW9) as the SR9C weighs about 8-9 oz more then the Kahr. I'll carry both...(but not at the same time).

Good evening all. 74F this morning, calm, thunderstorms in area, and 2.9 in rain in gauge. Just a few sprinkles later in the day, plus a few peaks of sunshine, light breeze and 86F for the high and DP of 77F. Went to chapel this morning, made breakfast for the wife, and puttered for the nay except for nap :). Forgot to mention ice maker replacement, it went bad when it started leaking and moisture got in the electronics, has worked fine all weekend and almost refilled the holding area. Ready for the hot weather that is ignoring my area the last two weeks :).
