One of my best friends was an older man that owned a clothing store and would spend his spare time working on his antique cars... this is how a met him.

Anyway... he opened his menswear shop in 1940... and from day one it carried Levi as well as Arrow and Pendleton along with others...

For decades we would go their to buy clothes... got my first suit there before I even knew the owner.

Anyway... about 25 years ago Levi cuts him off... said they are no longer serving the independants... and there were two chain stores in his location that have exclusive rights... so after decades that was that.

Funny thing is the grandson is running the store now... both of those big chain stores are a distant memory as is Mervyns... which started here.

To Pendleton's credit they keep supplying the independents just as they always have done... guess which is still USA?

I quit buying Levi's about 15-20 years ago when they closed their last American plant in San Antonio.

I can't wear regular wranglers, but I found out about their premium silver edition jeans and they are terrific. Last a long time too.

Slim fit. Ha ha ha. No freaking way.

Baileys has Wild *** jeans that are real tough and unwashed. Stiff as a board, like old Levi's . Cool kicking jackass logo on the pocket. I think you can get double fronts with them also.

Last weekend we saw a piece on PBS about a company that makes jeans in Raleigh, NC. Cool I thought and eventually looked them up.

All Men's – Raleigh Denim Workshop

The jeans start at $195!!!!!!!:shocked::shocked::eek::eek::eek::confused3::confused3::confused3:

They make Duluth seem cheap!:laughing::laughing:

I don't think they are making jeans for Tractor Drivers.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Funny that you mention this because I have been thinking of a similar business that has been open since the 1800s.

The store is in Siler City. Yes, there really is a Siler City, NC for those who have watched The Andy Griffith Show. Ironically, the actress who played Aunt Bea eventually moved to Siler City and lived there until she died.

Anywho, back to the store. There is a store in Siler City, not that far from Aunt Bea's house, that was first opened in the 1800 as a Farm Coop. The Coop was part of the Farmers Grange/Alliance movement in the 1800's and the store is still called the Farmer's Alliance. Farmers got together to form their own store and the store still exists though it is owned by one family at this point. The lady that owns it is up in age and I hope they can continue the store. It does have good products but it really is a place of history. Lots of signed photos on the walls from the actors from The Andy Griffith Show, other programs and locals from long ago. Part of the ground floor has women's clothing that looks right out of the 1950's and downstairs in the basement, where they used to keep fertilizer that you can still smell, is the men's clothing. They have a large selection of denim products, shirts and shoes. The shirts are not of the style seen in the mall stores.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

It is a bit of a drive for us to get to the store but we used to take the kids there so they could get a soda out of the old bottle machine and get some candy that is not sold in the local Stop and Robs anymore. One of the stores claim to fame is they still sell slices of hoop cheese. They do have a good selection of seeds.

As a kid I thought all jeans were made that way until I realized my parents were buying them from the 'irregular rack' at the discount store.

:D

.

Same here.. I asked my parents why I always had to wear irregular jeans. They said it was because I wasn't just any regular kid, I was special :D

Made me feel good.

Sounds like a place I would enjoy...

The old 1900 Hardware store closed a few years back... I bought the wood and glass display for Taps and Dies... not that I needed it but it was $20 on the last day and in the built in drawer were 40+ new Hansen Taps and a couple of Die...

Also bought the old Rockford Bolt Cabinet... maybe 200 drawers of nuts and bolts... it is my favorite shop possession...

I think it is a shame when the MBA take over a company as a cash cow to milk...

My friends men's store still has people from far and wide coming to buy Pendelton...

I stopped buying Levi around that time and have saved myself some money doing so...

I am still buying Levi's but you guys are about to switch me over to Wrangler. I have been buying Levi's online but I have to buy several pair to find one or two that will fit, and the quality is poor. And when did they start putting "spandex" in Levi's ?!?!
I wore Levi 517 boot cut jeans for years but now with no butt and too much belly I have to wear the loose fit jeans. SWMBO wanted me to go back to the 517's but I had to tell her no way.

Try the Wrangler Riggs. That's all I wear and they never seem to wear out. Plus they have the little patch on the right front pocket that keeps a measuring tape or pocket knife from wearing the seam.

I'm getting to the point that I'm going to buy 7 sets of the exact same shirts, pants, underwear and socks and throw all my other clothes away. It'd make my closet and drawers a whole lot less cluttered and make my life simpler.

I might even buy one of those circular apparel racks like you see in a store and hang everything on that. That way I'm not digging in the corner of the closet, I can just walk around the dang thing.

That just makes good sense to me, but have you asked your wife? I wear Dickies short sleeved coveralls more than 99% of the time and the last time I bought any, I just bought 3 of the same light blue color, and I already had 2 or 3 of that same color. My wife hasn't let me forget that I should have at least gotten some different colors.

I would love to... my wife wouldn't allow. I still wear shirts that are older than my adult kids when I can get away with it. She routinely buys clothes for me because I hate shopping unless I know exactly what I want. She purges my underwear and socks all the time without me knowing. Occasionally I will be looking for some beat up short pants. I'm in them most of the time if I can... but they go missing too! Jeans and shirts however she leaves to me to toss as she knows that is crossing the line.

I'm not original at all, usually when I find a shirt I like, I buy it in multiple colors. I'm terrible on jeans. It seems like I'm always wearing a good pair when I get into a project that requires wearing an old pair. I think Shellie might start being the clothes **** at my house, before I can start a project. I can hear her now, "Wearing new jeans? NO painting for you!"

just like Steve Jobs and Donald Trump and many other busy, successful people. They basically develop their own daily uniform.

There is a lot of sense in it.

Even the underwear that is held onto the elastic by three strands of cotton? There is lots of wear left in those. Unless of course the bottoms have holes so that they don't contain sharts (cross between sh#t and far%s). :D

I am not seeing anyone talk about Lees. They used to compete with Levis.

I wear some colored ones to work but I can't say that I have seen blue Lee jeans

Yes, but usually it is a case of all of the above!

While I am not as "bad" as Bird, I do have my basic clothes for one job that is a uniform of sorts. :D:D:D The "uniform" changes with the seasons but I wear Duluth shorts, light long pants or heavy long pants depending on the weather. The color is tan or black and tan is easy to match with shirts. My shirts are solid color polo shirts, long or short sleeves, again depending on the weather. It really is a uniform.:laughing::laughing:

Duluth has some really good, long wearing, thick, wool, socks for when I wear boots and I think I bought the socks I wear for running shoes from Duluth as well. The last set of wool boot socks I bought was from REI 20 years ago. They finally wore out, though I think they could be darned a bit to get more time out of them, but I don't have any darn time to darn.

The clothes are comfortable, and work with the seasons, so it works for me. :D:D:D The family is not so impressed.:laughing::laughing:

My wife was laughing at me the other day. All my clothes (shirts) are some shade of khaki, olive drab, brown. My pants are either blue jeans or olive drab. I'm not original at all.
