I do wear the colored Levis and Lees to work for the day job and have a few older blue Levis that I still wear from time to time. A few Wranglers but the quality isn't what I'd like. For anything around the farm it is the brown or black Carharts. The brown seem to be the heaviest material, black seems heavy too. The brown ones fade a lot but are well greased and oiled in the thigh area where I wipe my hands. It is best not to wipe your hands on the back of your pants since it gets the tractor seat oily. I have two pair or green Carharts for dress up. I think I have a few go-to-church slacks somewhere, not sure where. I used to have some "ball room" trousers that didn't cramp me in junk department.

As to the used pants, I can't say I want to put my junk where someone else put their junk :D

I got fed up with Levi's and Wranglers tried the mall stores, finally started buying the $13.95 jeans from Sam's Club. Not great, not bad but doesn't bother me when I mess them up. Probably not made in the USA and definitely not setting any fashion trends but last along time.

I wear dress slacks to work. For my everyday stuff I've found that Dickies 874 works pants are extremely durable. They are not versatile like jeans though. Can't use them with a nice button down oxford and sport coat.

I guess another thing that bothers me about this is that in addition to what used to be a quality, all-American company making a traditional all-American product that was versatile and fashionable, now importing low quality, not durable junk from overseas that doesn't even look good.................they are apparently doing just fine and people are still buying their low quality junk. A quick Google search about Levis pretty much yields page after page about how bad their jeans are. And they are still selling them like crazy.

So it seems their are multiple levels of problems. First, American labor has priced itself out of the market, second, manufacturers will gladly compromise quality and maybe even worse, the American public now has an appetite for expensive junk. Perfect storm.

I got an email from Duluth this morning saying they have a sale for 20% off with free shipping for orders over $75. From time to time I see 25% off, and I think I have seen a 30%, but this is still a good discount.

The discount code was BRIGHT.

Later,
Dan

2) Fit. And I don't mean that the 34x34s don't fit me. The problem is that some do and some don't. And the problem varies. Some don't fit in the waist, some don't fit in the crotch and some don't fit in length.

I haven't worn Levis since probably the 70s for that reason. In my case they always seemed too tight in the thighs, even buying a waists size one higher didn't really help.
Dunno if they still make them (haven't had a membership in 10+ years), but I liked the Sam's Club brand "Members Mark" ones. Good fit, not stiff and seemed to stand up as well as any.

kids HATE these pants though. They think pants with pockets look bad.
I thought kids were big on cargo pants, you know with a zillion pockets. Or have I been out of it for too long?

I remember in the early 70s there was a fad where men's slacks (wasn't allowed to wear jeans where I worked) had only front pockets. Dunno who thought that was a good idea.

Always Levi until the price got too high... saw 505 at Costco today for $30

Wrangler are almost a third of that last time I went to Target with the coupon.

What I miss is the JC Penny Big Mac line of work wear since 1922

Never bought anything Big Mac that wasn't well make and a good value...

I think 2012 is when the work wear was discontinued... had I known I would have stocked up... mostly navy and khaki...

For me it was Levi 504 for 15+ years, then they stopped making them!!!
I had a chuckle at N80 (opening poster) as his buying style is just like mine , you can do your shopping (4 pr trousers and 4 shirts)in 15 minutes or less.
And it drives women crazy.
As for grease on the trousers, no problem, just get "swarfega classic" hand cleaner if you can and paint it on the grease spots or use gloves, and the trousers come out clean. You can use modern mild hand cleaner but the brands I have tried are not as effective. It was the only time I showed mum how to get something clean

Glad for this coming up. Used to buy the 505's but started buying Costco jeans because of the price. The last time I bought them they were thin junk that feel like the stuff women's jeans are made of. Thanks for the ideas as I too am looking for quality jeans. Ed

I had to go from a regular cut to a slim cut because somewhere my butt fell off. If I don't find it soon I may need suspenders.........

I found it. I wish I could give it back.

I started shopping at Casual Male XL. The jeans seem to stand up and last OK. I really like their t-shirts in the tall size so they stay tucked in when sitting on the tractor all day or bending over.

Uh oh, "old guy's butt".

Grandpa's cure was to pull his pants up so the belt went over the top of his gut. :D

I work in my jeans so I get Rustler on sale for around 10-12 bucks a pair. They're Wrangler jeans without the label. The only thing I've noticed is that someone has been shrinking all of mine lately.
