IS YAHOO A SCAM??

I have been trying to get into my Yahoo email account since Tuesday and it keeps saying wrong password.
I have spent HOURS in help trying to get back in.
Today I called the Yahoo tech phone number found everywhere on line and got the typical barely speaks English person who wanted $49. to restore my account!
I ask where he was located, he said Florida. ???
I told him I worked for the government (I pay taxes there for I work for the gov) and he hung up!
I called back and got another barely speaks English, ask where he was located and he said Boston. ??
So is this a scam?
How do I get back into my email?

I wouldn't trust any of the phone numbers you find while searching. You should use the forgot password link on the yahoo login page. If that doesn't help, look for a contact us link on the yahoo page.

Maybe this will help if the forgot password option is not working.

I've never had a problem with Yahoo except for a little spam now and then. Most of that has even stopped. Some administrators will block incoming mail from Yahoo which ours did at work.

I had a problem on a forum when some yayhoo wanted my user name and kept attempting to reset my password. They had a total jerk administrating the forum. Turned out that forum was setup to allow people to change their displayed user name. Every time this other user would try to login with my user name and did the forgot password thing it would lock my account. This guy was posting with MY user name even though he couldn't log in with it. I went into one of his threads and confronted him and next thing I knew my user name got changed to something else. I just went back into settings and fixed it. The forum admin could not see the issue with how he allowed people to display any user name they wanted. I was very tempted to change my user name to the admins and make some off the wall posts to see if he understood then but I never did.

Thanks, I just tried that AGAIN.
It says they will email me to the account that I can't get into. ???
What kind of idiot will email you an answer to an account that you complained that you can't open????

I haven't used yahoo in forever. They used to have an option for you to answer security question or have a reset sent via text message, if you had provided that info.

Yeah, so yahoo security sucks if you do setup a recovery phone number then end up changing phone numbers and forget to update your security info. I just tested the recovery and someone set up an account using my number that I have had for a long time. It gave me access to their account.

Just another reason I do not use social media sites like Yahoo. I'm not that technically inclined and don't deal well with a lot of the so called service techs.

You were supposed to set up a long time ago a recovery email and/or a recovery phone number they can SMS. They bug the heck out of you to set this up.

Yep. It's not Yahoo's fault if you didn't follow instructions.

Can't imagine why you'd want a Yahoo account in the first place unless you need a quick throwaway account.

I am not sure if these problems are because as of today, Verizon now fully owns and controls Yahoo.
