The maddening part is, those on social assistance (and there are a lot) or the flood of refugees that Ontario has opened our doors to, could not give a crap to the price of electricity. For them, it's ALL paid for. And yes, my best friend at the time, did have his engineering degree paid for by Ontario Hydro.

As with any other company there is a training program . Let time I looked I am currently holding 247 active credits in various topics. It is cheaper for the company to send a known good employee to school for some additional training as required vs the cost of sighing a raw employee off the street and risking they may not make it through all the training and also be a useful employee. For a post secondary degree , the employee will attend a conventional university during evenings, weekends and take online courses. In fact Mrs B&D has been attending night school for the past 1-1/2 years. Does the navy pay to train recruits to be nuclear specialists ? Tell us what the difference is.

They seem to believe that the movie Godzilla etc are factual documentaries rather than fictional entertainment. You would be aghast as what they will stand at a microphone, believe and say on emotions through tears as they obtain a narcissistic thrill of attention. I would like to shut their power off as well as bar them from anything obtained or transported via crude oil for a month. Then note how "environmental they are.

:shocked: You have these people too! :shocked: Every once in a while they stand downtown, beat drums, flash signs, and give speeches. They have been complaining about the local nuke plant for years but that plant provides this region with power. There used to be a coal fired plant in the area providing power but it was shutdown by this mentality. If the nuke plant shut down the people complaining the most would be the people who wanted the plant shutdown in the first place.

Since these people are against power production, I really think they should be disconnected from the grid.

Could be a freak show in Kincardine tonight at the Legion . CTV's W5 and TVO have been sniffing around the Low and Intermediate Storage Site all week and have called for a townhall meeting.
Have to wonder if it's been slow in the news room and they are looking to manufacture some excitement . There will probably be a good showing of anti nuclear ludites and professional protestors imported into town for the occassion.

There is also something critical in that older article that hasn't even fully come in to play yet, IMO. The 60% sell-off of Hydro One - just wait..... Cali was a good example of what happens when public utilities "modernize", aka become nothing more than arbitrage plays.....

Even some of the municipal utilities are a lot sleazier than they used to be, esp. when they go into expansion mode. A classic scam they often run is to take over new territory, and swap out meters - then send out notices saying the old meter was not accurate, and the customer now owes $5,000 in back-charges.

About 80 persons present at the W5 news "town hall". Judging by the clapping when a anti DGR got up and wailed at the microphone there were about 14-18 anti's in support. The most irritating were a pair of 70 some year old burned out hippies that were church ministers. They started off their speeches with a prayer to the lake, streams, waters , trees and sky............not a word about God. They were some manner of Modern Paganism - Wikipedia earth god pagan worshipers.
Moonbats, rainbows and sandals too.
When the engineers , trades persons, managers, chemists, and geologists spoke it was all about facts figures and logic. When the anti's spoke it was all about "what if, I believe, I feel, I think that etc" A classic case of drama queens looking for excitement , attention and some sort of cause to give them a feeling of worth. One in particular may have been taking narcissistic pleasure from the attention. Facts and figures meant nothing to them. Their heads were is solid and impenetrable as the 680 meters of rock the low and intermediate level waste is to be sealed under.
One good thing about the meeting was there were some really yummy cookies afterwards. The other, the commentator Lloyd Robertson grew up in the same county as my wife and he knew her home town. Mrs B&D also had the same maiden name Robertson. By coincidence Lloyd Robertson also had a daughter with the same name Lisa. They chatted away for several minutes about people and places they both knew.

Reading the link, it says at the end,

Premier Kathleen Wynne rolled out her plan to slash hydro rates by 17% two weeks ago. When combined with an 8% HST rebate, the savings total 25%.

Which made me ask how are they paying for something that used to cost X but they reduce the price by 25%? Was the previous cost all "profit" other wise someone is paying for the 25% cut.

The last paragraph said,

That plan, which is supposed to take effect this summer, will cost taxpayers an estimated $25 billion in interest payments as the government re-amortizes electricity deals over 30 years to achieve the short-term savings.

Wow! Just Wow!

In this province, the scams start at a billion.

Remember how Sears (a long time ago) would get fined for massively increasing "Regular" prices, so they could then advertise a 50% Off Sale ?

The party in power here has massively run up prices (at least 85%), and is now attempting to act surprised that non 1%'ers can't afford their elec bills. Us peasants are now supposed to fall all over ourselves being grateful for a 25% cut..... if people here next election vote these clowns back in, after a 60%+ increase, then it probably is time to vacate the province IMO.....

I don't think we (the people of Ontario) ever 'owned' Hydro One/Ontario Hydro. I know I never saw any profits from it.

Used to own it by having power cheaper than most other provinces, states and countries. Then the public assettes were sold off by corporate raiders in 1999. Then Dalton and wynne listened to the green weenie Gerrald Butts and forced the rates payer to subsidize the wholesale price wind, gas and solar at 13.5, 17 and up to 80.2 cents per Kw with the priority to generate. While at the same time hydroelectric and nuclear spill water or blow steam when they could sell for 5 to 7 cents wholesale .
