I believe the PTO clutches are out on my Yanmar F395D. I'm wondering how to access them. I know there is next to no one having a F395D but thinking there are other models that will be similar on how to access the clutch plates on the PTO. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Does the F395 have a live pto? :confused3: Seems to be very little information on line. If that is what you are talking about a split at the engine/clutch housing will reveal the clutch.

Thanks for your reply Winston1. I don't believe it is a two stage clutch. So if it's not, any idea on how I would access the clutches?

Inquire if Dave's Tractor in Red Bluff will look at it for you.

He became the Mahindra western region distributor but he got his start with used tractors including importing clean used Yanmars back in the day so he's very familiar with them.

He occasionally posts in the Mahindra forum now, and always has excellent advice.

No doubt over my knowledge level. I know nothing about pto clutches other than the two stage.

Hello California,

Thank you for your reply.

I have spoke to Dave at Dave's Tractor before, couldn't ask for a nicer guy. I'm sure they would look at it for me but I can't do the $95.00 P.H. I was hoping someone would have an idea of where to start but if not I will just have to wing it. Done that plenty of times before. :)

So your tractor moves and has power in all gear ranges just does not have pto? Tractors from this era have a one-way clutch in the transmission. To get to it you slit the tractor in three pieces and remove just about everything in the transmission after removing it completely. Pretty serious job.

Well, that's not wanted to hear.. :) Yes, everything works and the PTO will turn just won't turn an implement. Also I can stop it by it with my hand. Thanks for your reply

Are you sure the shift forks are hooked up? In the past I have had mine loosen up and fall out of place with the shifter

Yes, as I said in an earlier post, I can get the PTO to turn and stop by engaging and disengaging it. But I can stop it with my hand and of course it will not turn any equipment.

Thanks

Do you have an over-running clutch on the PTO shaft where it comes out the back? When you were operating a brush cutter, did the PTO disengage when you pushed the clutch?

I do not believe I have an over running clutch. I have never operated any equipment with the PTO. Purchased the tractor last winter, tried the PTO and it turned so I assumed it worked.

Has it been determined this is anything other than a simple geared PTO? Are there really clutches? If so, could they be driven by hydraulic pressure and engaged/disengaged by UFO commands? (UFO is Yanmar's electronic 3-point control system, not aliens! :))

I looked for a cam clutch/ one-way clutch part #. Based on that search, I would say he does not have one. Possibly he has an over-riding clutch on the PTO shaft. That would make his failure a broken shaft or gears no longer in contact. I think he would have heard teeth plucking off.

If it's like yanmar's other units the PTO slides out after you take out the 4 bolts or so...maybe a snap ring or two? I can't remember its been awhile since I looked at the manual.

You bring up a good point California. I emailed Leonard at Sheaffer Town & Country Tractor and he told me it was probably one of three things, low hyd. pressure, worn out clutches and or a bad O-ring. Pretty sure my hyd. pressure is good. I am supplying a link to the diagrams to the PTO showing the clutches and if you look in Figure 61 Part #17 is an O-ring.

Yanmar F395D PTO Click on the photo and six pages will come up.

One more thing that could possibly be the culprit. I have lever underneath the steering wheel that says "PTO" and some Japanese writing. It slides up and down and seems to have three positions. But none of them seems to have any effect on the PTO. Maybe before I tear into the rear end, I will get in there and see if maybe this lever is the UFO you speak of and it is not connected.

Thanks for everyone's response.
