They are grey and I want to repaint some for an M7040. It could be Kubota ROPS Grey, Kubota Dark Grey Enamel or Kubota Dark Grey Semi-Gloss. Trouble is I don't know which and can't seem to find an answer. Does anyone know? It's important to me that I get the correct OEM color.

Maybe this chart will help.

Wish I could find a alternative to the Kubota paint as its about double the price of kry lon or rusto lean. Chevrolet orange engine paint from dupli color is a pretty good match.

There are numerous posts and threads on why I believe the best and cheapest Kubota (or any manufacturer) paint is their own OEM super quality paint. We need not confuse price with value.

Couldn't you just choose one of the colours... then paint all of your weights?

I'll help using the scientific method; "einee, meinee, mienee...." = Kubota Dark Grey Semi-Gloss

There. Done. You're welcome.

I would like to paint them orange since Kubota Orange II is such a great color but it would not be correct and I'm a purist to maintain what came from the factory. I suspect they are dark grey but not semi gloss. Wish I could be sure.

I use Rustoleum Charcoal Gray for parts I have replaced on the engine and touch up on ROPS and the brake case I replaced. Home Depot has it online by the 6 pack or have seen it in some ACE stores, not all places that have Rustoleum stock it.

6-dogs,

Couldn't your local Kubota dealer check the specs on OEM Kubota weights and wouldn't the exact color be listed in these specs? Can you find an OEM Kubota weight and match it against the color chart you posted?

What makes you so certain that the color that the weights are right now is OEM? Maybe they were repainted after purchase and the "real" OEM color is something completely different but still off that color chart.

I suggest finding a OEM Kubota front end weight that you know has not been repainted and go from there.

oosik..thanks.

The parts guy wasn't sure but is looking it up and that could take forever or even never. So when I need a fast answer, I ask here. TBN'ers are a smart lot of people. I have 15 of these weights and they all are the same color but I cannot figure out which shade they are. Plus, I'm somewhat color blind and can't differentiate between the weight and the picture.

The answer will show up by either someone knowing or the dealer calling.

Wow!!! That's a lot of suitcase type weights. The other dilemma I see is - undoubtedly over time the paint on the weights has faded somewhat and although it has become a lot better - the color on the "color match card" never seems to be the exact shade when the paint dries on your project.

Don't worry - last I heard only about 5% to 7% of the population has true 100% color perception.

On the other and a bit hilarious side - the neighbor just bought a new BIG Case IH and about 10-12 weights for the front. They came on a separate pallet and he asked his teenage son to take them off the pallet and put them on the front weight rack on the tractor. I guess the boy didn't think simple red was fitting because he "spiced them up" using multiple cans of varying color spray paint. The brand new tractor looks like something the hippies would use to pull a wagon down Haight/Ashbury. I'm glad I wasn't around when the neighbor saw his son's improvements.

I saw some big weighs come in for the back of a larger tractor and I think they were 600 lbs each. Same day I counted over 20 (24 ?) weights on the front of a JD and they were the 125lb ones I think. The front bracket looked to be 500 lbs so that's quite a load.

There are many pics on the TBN of bar bell round flat weights turned into tractor weights and most looked really good--and cheap. I've done it as well for implements.

Six, Can you tell the color by the date? Did Kubota use only one of those grays during the years your weights or tractor was built? I'm trying to use the same logic that would work on the Ford grays over the years, and thought it might work for Kubota too.

Kubota changed things around so no logic that I understand. I'm thinking it's the same color as the frame which is dark gray but not the glossy dark grey. Just whatever the color of the frame is.

I used to understand the Ford gray and Ford dark white/light gray thing years ago and maybe can remember. Ask away if you want and if I don't know will know where to get the answer.

My brother in law owns a paint store. If you can use a sprayer, any automotive paint store can exactly match the color with a special camera that takes a snap of your present color and coordinates with a computer to add the correct colors and amounts to attain the color you want or you can take a pic of your rops with the color chart next to it and I'll tell you the color. (I seem to have an eye for that)

With you being color blind, these shades aren't helping the matter whatsoever.

At the very least they could identify it.

You could get a sample of the 2 greys you think are closest and spray test one or two of the weights to see what is closest to the chart of your frame color. Gloss shouldn't change the actual underlying base color, just is shininess and ability to last in the harsh sunlight.

Weights spend their life in the sun and weather and seem to fade on the first day. I have some brand new ones and can't tell the right color. I will try to compare some tomorrow but they are 100 lbs and not really easy to find the best side and then place together.

Here's an example: most people don't know that Kubota has a different paint and color for their ROPS even though they look at it every day. The shades just seem to fade together and look too similar.

I figured it out and had it independently confirmed. The correct color for front end weights is whatever frame color the tractor came with. For post 1989 Kubotas that would be the dark gray enamel that is not glossy. Glossy is for the frame.

The bracket that these bolt to is often the same orange as the body color but it can also be gloss gray like the frame.

After seeing weights that came through as the plain enamel compared with guys that had incorrectly painted them the gloss gray, the glossy paint held up much better and it what I'm going with. Glossy weights that were outside for several years still looked great while the plain dull enamel gray had already rusted considerably. I really try to stay factory correct but this small violation for such a dramatic improvement is something I can live with.
