Just came in from plowing 24 inches of snow. About halfway through I looked next to me and saw this piece of angle iron laying in the driveway. It is about 13 or 14 inches long with a single hole at each end. There is no doubt that it came off my NorTrac 204. Question is where did it come from?

After seeing it laying there I finished plowing (another 1.5 hrs). There were no noticeable extra noises, vibrations, handling issues, loader performance, etc. everything seemed fine.

I recently replaced the alternator belt and had all the fan shroud bolts out so I could jimmy the shroud around and snake the belt between the fan and the radiator. It is the only work recently done. Is this piece related to the radiator or from a completely different area of the tractor?

Thanks!

Is that welding spatter all over it?
Is that broken tack welds along the upper right edge above the hole?

You sure its from the tractor and not dragged in from the road?

Maybe a radiator support?

:confused3:

How about battery hold down. I has one similar on my old Kubota, the two holes were for the all thread connected to the battery tray

The battery hold down on my dozer is 16", and it's an angle just like that. It crosses the battery lengthwise. A battery hold down is the most likely assumption since the holes are on the same plane. I'd check your battery box under the hood.

Jackpot! Thanks Cat Driver (and others). I could have stared at it for a while and still not see it.

So now explain the welder marks.... could have touched the poles on the battery or something.

You're lucky to have found it in the snow. You could have easily buried it forever and eternity. :)

I am lucky to have seen it being sidetracked with snow stinging the eyes. I looked at it under strong light. The appearance of weld splatter turn out to be a trick of lighting from the camera's flash. Thanks again. TBN rules.
