Hello All -

I have enjoyed the wealth of knowledge here on the forums in helping me narrow down my choice of tractor for my new property. I have recently moved onto 8 acres, wooded, with only about 2.5-3 acres that require maint. I'll be mowing around a pond with some hills that is rough cut grass, using the tractor to haul firewood up to the barn for splitting, basic landscaping, snow maint in NE Ohio (snowbelt), etc.

I have settled on a Max 26 and have been looking at new and used in the area.

I found a deal on a used model 2014 with 300 hours, loader, backhoe and shuttle shift for about $14500. Its not original owner - it was a trade in, but since its still under warranty I think its safe. It looks meticulous with the only minimal scratches being on the buckets from light use.

Do you guys find this to be a good deal, and if so, is there anything I should be on the look out for when checking it out? Its about a 4 hr drive, so I want to get all my ducks in a row first.

Thanks
Michael

That all depends on what the new price is but that doesn't sound like a bad deal to me right off the bat especially with a backhoe. Just make sure it's a Mahindra hoe and not one of those 3pt things.

Its a full mahindra setup, not an aftermarket backhoe. I have about 12 pictures of the unit and confirmed running, and that everything works - with exception of the 3pt. Since the loader is attached, i will need to have him remove that and verify the 3point is working as expected.

I priced them out new in my area and i was quoted about $22k for a new Max 26, FEL, backhoe,60" finishing mower, and blade. Counting tax, its around $23,500

He'd have to pull the backhoe to check the 3pt, not the front end loader. It's not a big deal but a dolly does help so I made one to ease the task for myself.

I recently was looking at emax25 and max26, new. The max was out out of budget. What you found is broken in and a good deal.

Check for the 50hr service!

Just to CYA offer $500 less but snare it anyway.

I am pretty sure this is the tractor you are looking at

Mahindra Max 26 XL tractor with loader and backhoe

I called and there are a few things that knocked this pretty far down my list.... Its not a quick change bucket, and I want to add a grapple and will probably be swapping quite a bit. Its the shuttle shift and I will be doing a lot in my woods, so a lot of loader work in small spaces, not very great for a shuttle shift. It really wont have much warranty left. And I have a friend to bought a tractor from this guy that ended up having all sorts of issues as soon as he got it home... I don't know the whole story, but it was enough for me to question a guy that frequently buys and sells used tractors as a "side business"

Shuttle on the Max shifts like a Mazda Miata compared to most tractor manual gear boxes. I would not want the 2 Speed HST for my use, and that involves a lot of loader work. I really like the 8 x 8 shuttle.

You can get a QA plate, just figure $750 and take that off your offering price.

Strong little nice tractor for the woods.

If you have a good local dealer, that is the real question with Mahindra.
