My hookaroon just has a plain tip, not the odd-shaped tip that a good pulp hook has. For that reason, it's not the greatest for picking up logs. It does work great for sliding wood out of a trailer.

Personally, I prefer tongs for lifting roundwood (they don't work so well on spit wood). A buddy I sometimes cut firewood with swears by his pulp hook. Neither of us has much use for the hookaroon for anything other than trailer unloading, but perhaps we just haven;t found the right technique.

Tom Seller wanted me to periodically update on my Split Second splitter. It has exceeded my expectations. It has split everything I asked it to. I thought I thought I may need to keep my old hydraulic splitter around but I was wrong. I sold it a few weeks after getting the split second. I can go over 5 hours on a gallon of gas, yes a gallon. The log lifter is a must have. Even if the wood is not too big to pick up, it makes a great staging table. The only regret I have is not getting one sooner.

There are several different styles of hookaroons. Peavy manufacturing makes I don't know how many.

If they were swapped to reverse for clearance, that wouldn't have reversed the tread. Looks to me like they were just switched side for side. I'd reverse them just to avoid the comments here.

Here's my little Massey Ferguson GC1710 SCUT with a load of madrone wood. Also in the picture is some gravel I spread using the tractor.

In the distance, you can see a peek-a-boo slice of our pond. It's above the driver side loader arm.

Gorgeous area! that red tractor is just the right color for that background - nice shot!

I made this from an old log hook which had a broken 4' handle. It's turned from white oak, only decent thing I had around. Works well for moving rounds to the log lift without too much bending.

Wishing everyone some relaxing time over the holidays.

Thanks. The knob at the handle end is part of a 1-1/4" union I threaded onto the oak - hope it stays on. Cheers

I used my tractor to lift oak logs over my wagon this morning,

It REALLY cuts out all of the lifting of big wood! Cutting logs on the ground, just to have to lift them to load them and again onto the splitter is a huge waste of time and energy,

Soon I had a pretty good load on my wagon,

And some of those oak block are pretty BIG,

Next job will be to roll those blocks right onto my splitters beam!

ooooh, did I mention that I LOVE my Jonsered 2260? lol

A thinking man. No sense lifting anything you don't need to by hand

Brought my wood for the rest of the year home. If I wait till everything is frozen I don't rut up my lawn. I'll have enough at home now to last till next Christmas. image-1445190360.jpg image-2827829151.jpg image-822724410.jpg

Its 70 degrees here. It makes it hard to get out and cut wood when the grounds soft.

Not only that but it rained all day. What an ugly day which is usually not the case when you hit record highs in December.

We were a lot luckier - missed the rain and had 40 degrees. A beautiful day.

I got to cut a really nice balsam fir today. One of the very few I have cut on my lot that did not have any butt rot yet. Not a state record tree but way above average. Over the years I have averaged about 60 board feet of usable saw logs per tree. This one by itself is a little over 300. Bear with me - I get excited over this stuff.

Then there were 3 more smaller ones at the top.

My parents had Free Tickets to anywhere Air Canada? flies and they chose Yellow Knife... said it was one of their best trips ever... no plans... just enjoy the journey...

My wife has family up there. We have been wanting to travel up for years but just haven't had the time. Apparently it's beautiful country and not all commercialized like other destinations. Just need to tie yourself down or the Mosquitos will carry you away.
