My hookaroon just has a plain tip, not the odd-shaped tip that a good pulp hook has. For that reason, it's not the greatest for picking up logs. It does work great for sliding wood out of a trailer.
Personally, I prefer tongs for lifting roundwood (they don't work so well on spit wood). A buddy I sometimes cut firewood with swears by his pulp hook. Neither of us has much use for the hookaroon for anything other than trailer unloading, but perhaps we just haven;t found the right technique.
